Google Drink Aware, have a browse round the website. There's a screening tool which tells you whether your a likely risk of developing a drink problem.

Also download the Drinkaware app (assuming you have a phone) and start tracking your drinks.

Download MyFitnessPal and track food and drink

Aim to less alcohol and you should consume less calories.

Good shout thanks, just downloaded the Drinkaware App and going to give it a go. Frightening results to start, need to reduce before it gets away from me!

I don't have a (spare tyre) so to speak, or fat legs and arms. Just the double chin and protruding gut. Anyone else had the same issue? I am cutting back on the booze and doing more exercise as a result of this ridiculous beer gut.

This is not the only place i'm asking for advice because so many on here are utter bellends. But there are a few, who will consider my post seriously.
You've got to reduce you're intake or cut it out altogether. More exercise is the way forward. Getting rid of a beer gut is really difficult and takes time.

It will? I drink plenty of water in the morning because i'm dehydrated. Then it's coffe for the rest of the day. Then alcohol until I go to sleep. It's not everyday like. I'm 44, living abroad. My problem is the home-drinking and how comfortable with that I am. Thanks for the comment.
I’ve never enjoyed drinking by myself, it’s a social thing for me and only at weekends (not criticising you btw).
If I have a drink on a Sunday, Monday at work is awful. I just can’t function the same. Mind I wasn’t always like this I could do 7 nights a week at one time, I have no idea how I managed it, I think there is a bit of an age thing now.
I also go to the gym before work now, it’s an incentive not to drink because I’m up at 5.00 and wouldn’t want to be done for drinking and driving on the way to the gym.

My friend used to have a big slurp the night before a gym session at 7am, not sure how he did it. Eventually started having these horrible warm farts that made him check his underwear after each one. Went to the doctors and they gave him tablets. The farts weren't as bad but the smell was worse so he knocked the drink on the head all together.

Urghhh well that thought has cheered up my Friday morning :lol:

A beer is 200 calories a pint. Add them up and you're probably drinking your daily calorific need
Isn't a bloke allowed around 2500 calories?,, I have an annoying beer belly, I only drink a couple of times a week and even then 2pts at most av tried eating salads etc no take awayss, exersise it's still there, am told exersise will do nowt got a beer gut, you can wLk20 miles. A day it won't help with a belly issue?

The slippery slope of drinking at home is alarming in my experience. Glad to mainly booze when out and about these days
Correct ,in my experience and of watching others do it as soon as you start "having a few cans" after work your on the slippery slope. Most think they can handle it but are unable to stop as "I've been to work all day I deserve a few cans if I want "

Exercise will get rid of a gut. Anyone saying otherwise is stupid.

Nope soz mate, was speaking to a pretty knowledgeable guy who has lost a few stone using these powdered meals, he knows his stuff, wS adamant his nutriciianist. Said exersise although always good for you, will not decrease a beer belly, only way is to stop drinking.

A 'beer' belly is just fat, isn't it? It's just that for most men, however you pile it on and particularly as you head towards middle-age, round the waist is where is goes. So calories burned > calories in will reduce it, whether you do it by exercise increasing the calories burned or diet reducing the calorie intake or both. Obviously if you keep drinking, it's harder to make that equation work.

It will stop you getting to a low body fat percentage no doubt but a beer belly can be sorted by diet and exercise, well just diet really. Problem is in order to diet you have to cut down on the drink. Not stop completely though.
