I don't have a (spare tyre) so to speak, or fat legs and arms. Just the double chin and protruding gut. Anyone else had the same issue? I am cutting back on the booze and doing more exercise as a result of this ridiculous beer gut.

This is not the only place i'm asking for advice because so many on here are utter bellends. But there are a few, who will consider my post seriously.

Diet mixer and white spirit is your friend mate.. or cider - never see any fat all day every day cider drinkers

You’re doing all you can do.

Drink less (much, much less)
Watch your diet
Exercise more

It takes time. If you need additional support speak to your GP. They may refer you to your local alcohol service where you can access specialist advice to stop drinking as much.

I’ve just realised this is an actual problem you have with drink and not a casual drinking / eating issue. Apologies.

Cut down on your park life mate and get some exercise.

Is that AA or something else?

Something else.

Most local authorities will commission a substance misuse service, for people with drug and or alcohol issues.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a separate organisation with its own framework for stopping drinking, though both have the same overall aims I guess.

I don’t know enough about the content of each organisations service, but AA has been running well over a hundred years iirc

Cheers, I rang AA a while back and its ran by ex alco's, the guy i had said he lost everything though drink, house family friends all his money but also said he has got it all back after quitting, he also said i sound like a functioning alco, i would like to go to an AA meeting to wallow in other peoples misery.

Let’s get serious. There is no such thing as a ‘beer gut’. You have simply consumed more calories on a daily basis than you have burnt.

Well done you for acknowledging you have a problem with the drink, that’s the first step to getting on the path to recovery. Do what @Frijj mentioned, get in touch with a local service.

Start knocking in 2 litres of water a day (or 4, or 6....don’t listen to anybody who tells you it washes away minerals from your system, it’s horseshit)

Increasing your daily water intake will drastically reduce your gut, because right now you’re body is hoarding

I'm a high functioning alcoholic. Have been for many years. I'm an expert in social drinking. If that's not on offer. I'll happily get pissed on my own at home. Which I do enjoy and am very good at. Play the music I like, watch what I want. But this damn beer gut...I want rid of it.

You sound like me. I'm in a band though and that keeps me fit and keeps my beer gut and double chin down.

It will? I drink plenty of water in the morning because i'm dehydrated. Then it's coffe for the rest of the day. Then alcohol until I go to sleep. It's not everyday like. I'm 44, living abroad. My problem is the home-drinking and how comfortable with that I am. Thanks for the comment.

A beer is 200 calories a pint. Add them up and you're probably drinking your daily calorific need

Try and stick with water, and keep coffee as a minimum. Within 3 days, if you knock in 2 litres of water a day (or more if you can face it), you will notice a humongous difference in your belly, whilst some will be fat, a big chunk of it will be water retention. If you can plant an end goal in your mind, you’ll get there.

Massively increase your water intake for an instant, noticeable difference
