New Music Releases Thread

Enjoyed Conor oberst. Really liked ruminations so was worried about the full band versions. But the full band sound more bright eyes than mystic valley band so pretty good.

Gorillaz tracklist has been leaked (kind of). Loads of features. De La Soul, Vince Staples and Danny Brown the main ones that I can see.

Thee most boring band going. I have tried enough times to get into them but they just bore me to tears. File alongside Tame Impala.

Maybe it's just me.
I find it easy enough to listen to - kind of stuff that washes over you without being bad enough to turn off.

So, this week's new stuff that I've listened to so far:

ANOHNI - similar to the album but not quite as good so an EP of offcuts.
Real Estate - jingles along pleasantly enough but doesn't make me want to put it on repeat or list it in my top 20 of the year.
Conor Oberst - very good! Yet to decide whether I prefer the full band versions or the solo versions of a lot of songs.
Tamikrest - enjoyable Malian desert blues. Not sure it's quite up there with the latest Tinariwen album.
Stick in the Wheel - very old school folkie! Pretty minimal on the instrumentation
Spoon - They've added a bit more keyboard as comapred to the usual Spoon album. Still Spoon, and thus pretty good, just more keys.

I've yet to listen to Jarvis/Chilly as yet.

Tame impala are superb imo. Not sure how you can find em boring.

To be honest, whilst I really like Lonerism, I've found the other two albums to be a bit dull.

Back to new stuff, the Jarvis Cocker and Chilly Gonzalez album is definitely going to take a few listens before I can have a coherent opinion on it.

Blanck mass meets the usual standard imo mate and the strand of oaks is canny, bit nostalgia there mate very 90s British guitar band sound iirc jamc isn't bad on the first couple listens there and depeche mode is an improvement on recent efforts anarl

The Cousins gets better and better with every listen. It's a bizarrely diverse album, yet it's not at all disjointed, flows well and not one song seems out of place (not even the weird electro-pop tracks).

Conor Oberst is great too, the Rumination tracks needed the full band treatment IMO (I felt it was lacking a little something before) and I'm loving the new tracks, Napalm especially!

I'll give The Cousins a listen. Also, Napalm is excellent!

Doesn't look like this was posted when it came out in January - live version of a new Frank Turner song, The Sand in the Gears. Assuming it's written in the aftermath of Trump. Is he cool enough for this thread? I think so, but it's on Spotify for folkie dad rockers like me who might be interested!
