New Music Releases Thread

New Uncut arrived yesterday along with the 6 disc Kitchens of Distinction box set. Uncut CD has some things I've listened to already (Thundercat, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Father John Misty's "Pure Comedy"). High points of the rest for me - Mark Lanegan Band, Boss Hog, New Pornographers, BNQT, Feral Ohms. Father John Misty and Bob Dylan are, somewhat predictably, the big featured albums of the month.

KoD thing comes in a book style box. Contains the four late 80s to mid 90s studio albums plus a disc of B-sides and a disc of BBC sessions.

This week's new releases include Jarvis Cocker & Chilly Gonzales, Depeche Mode, Conor Oberst (full band versions of some Ruminations tracks plus other stuff), Spoon, Adult., Real Estate, Rick Ross, Pulled Apart By Horses, Stick in the Wheel and Oliver Alary.

As always, I've undoubtedly missed something there.

What's out today? Conor Oberst has redone Ruminations with full band (in a different order) plus 7 extra tracks (called Salutations), The Cousins (Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies and his cousin, actor Harland Williams), Depeche Mode, Spoon and Pulled Apart by Horses. Have I missed anything of note?

I have to miss one every week.
TBH I don't expect many people other than myself to get excited about a collaboration between the Barenaked Ladies keyboard player and an actor who is mainly known for playing complete oddballs in slapstick comedy films!

That could be brilliant...I really enjoyed that full band version of St Dymphna.

I've managed to excel myself with missed thing this week. There's a new Anohni EP (a companion piece to Hopelessness), Swedish psych warriors Hills release their latest album and, in a less westernised line, Tamikrest release their second album of post-Tinariwen desert rock and Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan releases her new album.

Never heard of any of them.

Had a listen of The Cousins and I'm half way through Conor Oberst.

The Cousins is hit and miss first time around goes from brilliant to ridiculous. A handful of 80s style indie-rock, some 50s/60s influenced, a couple of experimental tracks and a couple of ridiculous dance-pop/electronica efforts.

I'm enjoying Salutations. I thought Ruminations was lacking in places (although Next of Kin and A Little Uncanny were 2 of my favourite tracks of 2016) and I much prefer the bigger versions here. Of the new tracks, Napalm is fantastic!
