I was level 62 and went to level up with 285,000k xp at Atilsia, and shot up to 76, I then decided to finish the last level, don't think I understand the ending.

I wouldn't worry about it, you'll not be the only one. Vast majority of people have stated the story is a bit of a mess.

Which bit didn't you understand? Do you know how to use the spoiler tag?

Ardyn was a former king of lucis who used his powers to cure people of the disease which was turning them into daemons. Each time he cured someone he took on a little more of the disease himself. He was betrayed by the gods and another of noct's ancestors as they deemed him unclean. His daemon blood meant the gods prevented him going to the afterlife so he ended up in limbo bound to eos.

To be killed the chosen king needed to wield the ring of Lucis and the power of all of the royal bloodline but using this power would kill him. King Regis and Luna both knew that Noctis would have to sacrifice himself from the beginning.

The ending shows noct summoning the powers of the past kings and binding it to the ring of lucis and using it to destroy ardyn. The rest is a flashback to the memories of the journey (I loved how they used your photos over the credits) culminating in their final camp before they set out for ardyn where noctis told them he wouldn't be coming back. The final scene is Luna and noctis finally together and at peace in the afterlife.

Only thing I'm not clear on is whether the other chocobros are dead. They appear in the afterlife before ardyn is destroyed but it looks like only ardyn can see them so I think they're probably still alive.

So why did Ardyn help Noctis if he knew he needed Noctis to kill him, and why fight against him if he wanted to be killed?

Yeah I had the same question. Its not explained very well. I understood it as he wanted to prove noctis was the chosen king and kill him. To prove that he needed him to receive the crystals light. He wanted to kill the chosen king but after spending years on eos was ready for death so either outcome suited him. It was another bit of the story that was badly told.

That's the bit I didn't understand as mentioned earlier.

There were some really poor bits of storytelling like not just this one. Anyway the post game is good. Going rooting through the locked dungeons and fighting the toughest monsters in the game to get the legendary weapons. Only just got the flying regalia now!
I know I will lose interest and just sack it off when I have finished the story. I always do.

How short are the chapters! Jesus!

Ignis just stopped the car to let a procession of giant centipedes cross the road! Anyone seen anything like that before? Like a line of baby ducks but uglier!

Just earned 800k EXP in one sitting. Level 80 on chapter 6...

I just cram loads of rare coins into a strong magic spell for Expericast III and use it on anything. Seems to be a max EXP gain cap of around 19k per battle so if the spell is strong enough you can level up pretty much a level per fight in dungeons.

When you go to level up after chapter 9, does your EXP get tallied when you go to sleep in the open world area or when you arrive back in Altissia? Can you explain how I can tally over for the x3 boost. Never maxes out a character on FF before and quite fancy doing it...

Don't rest anywhere, you have to have gone passed chapter 13 to enable you to go back in time to Altissia, once you have enough XP go to any rest or camp area and don't select stay select Umbria, then select Altissia, you will apear in a hotel, don't stay with the first clerk, he'll offer you 1.5x XP, go to the other on the right, he'll offer you 3x XP for 30,000 gil, well worth it if you've banked enough XP.

Its a perfect time to do the night hunts or fishing to pass the time away, or the dungeons that only open at night.

Currently doing chapter 13. I'll tell you something, the story in this has to one of the most poorly implemented ever. You can tell massive amounts were cut to get it released. Those chapters on the train were abysmal and obviously shoehorned in. So fragmented as to make almost no sense whatsoever. Shame, as the gameplay in the open world actually surprised me as to how addictive it was but the endgame is kind of destroying the experience for me...

One of the worst sequences I've played in any game ever that.
I didn't think it was too bad. Far better than the train ones before it which were shocking. I think it might have been patched since I played it, though? Did you have access to attacks at the beginning when you did it?

Completed it so a few thoughts below.
The Ifrit fight was absolutely brilliant and I love how he had a classical historical look about him. The Shiva kiss! Haha, proper magic. The Ardyn one in comparison was terrible. I didn't like the dark turn it took past chapter 9, felt it detracted from the fantastic friendship bonding they'd done beforehand. Although, despite thinking the story was f***ing shit, I still enjoyed the ending and it had me a bit choked up. I enjoyed all the characters, strangely enough, and the sentimentality of that mid-credits scene was rather brilliant yet sad.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game but there's no denying we were served up a rushed, unfinished game. If it had had a few more years (I know!) it could have been an absolute masterpiece.

I'm pretty much with you

i did think the prompto segue was a bit rushed and a little unnecessary. Equally the reunion was a bit rushed and low key although I liked the bit fighting through the "dark" galdin quay.

The ardyn fight was a huge disappointment given how easy it was and given how obvious a final boss he was.

I also loved the ending though. Like you, the mid credit stuff made it worthwhile for me (that's why I mentioned the photos - I saw one guy who only saved one photo of cindees tits which made it quite laughable instead!). The story was hit and miss but the bond they built up with the main characters was excellent.

All in all I reckon it's the most satisfied I've been with an ending to an FF game since viii - which given the shit they've turned out since isn't saying much but I'm still enjoying the post game world too.

Typical of square enix. Finally getting the gameplay right but f***ing up the story after years of doing the opposite. Oh how I long for the days of squaresoft.
