I've met some truly mad Sunderland supporters .....

Any of Frankies regulars remember the name of the pub we'd park up at in Aldgate East? The strippers came around collecting with a pint glass and none of them were averse to a very severe fondling. It was a young lads dream and I just thought it was the norm.

Back home I tried the same move on one in Spenny, she very nearly knocked me out.:(

Always remember my first long trip, it was to Fulham about 75. Me and my mate were 13 and over heard some blokes off our bus talking about stopping at Harrow for the night. We started to panic because we'd brought no pajamas

If people, genuinely, want to see a thread that (I think) is interesting, informative and sometimes humorous being allowed to continue then certain posters need to grow up and cut out the juvenile behaviour shown.

If they don't I can see a mod with an "itchy finger" deleting the whole thing (which is what some appear to be aiming for) but I'm hoping that before going down that route said mod will take the more time consuming route of warning those responsible and then banning the bassas if they don't start acting as grown ups.

Any thread is only as good as those who make contributions and there has been some great lads & stories posted about various characters.

As I said in the OP I've travelled around he country for 40 odd years and met some extraordinary people.

From the responses it's obvious many people have the same find memories and lifelong friendships from those days .......
..... it's good that there's a thread where like minded people can share their recollections.

Sadly they are mate.

When we played at the semi-final we went down to the Millwall car park to buy some tickets as we knew there would be plenty of spares.

There were stretched limos turning g up and the scumbags that poured out of them made your flesh creep. They looked like the homeless on a day trip.

As soon as they were on the street they were shouting and swearing at people and obviously up for trouble.

I'm glad to say the Sunderland support is was your classier than them lot.
After the match I was in a group of sunderland that had been surrounded by police and kept together near the cricket ground. I remember groups of millwall jumping out of Limos to attack us. It wasn't just groups of daft lads either, it was families with women and kids having a go .

Which is exactly why I don't wish to see less than a handful of idiots achieving their (seeming) objective to have the thread deleted, when so many are enjoying it.

I went to Old Trafford without tickets and ended up in the Millwall section.

I've always thought the vast majority of people go for the football not violence but this was the other way round, all they were talking about.

But the worst thing about being in there was that they actually smelled

We went to the stewards and complained until they let us go onto the Sunderland seats along the side
How old are you?

Brilliant thread lads. A lot of the old stories read like a social history of what times were like back then.

The difference between back then and the present is quite staggering really.

Due to age I only started going to Roker early 90's, so i missed out on the 70's and 80's.

These old accounts are interesting to read so keep them coming.

Is recalling stories from yesteryear that involved fighting actually glorifying it? If its part of the day that you are talking about are you supposed to just miss that bit out? What if some people look back on a time when they got in a scrape or dodgy situation and find it funny? Is that allowed?

2004? Loads left at half time and Cardiff didn't want to know apparently. Same in Bristol after the match with bristol city wasn't it?

I was there for the Cardiff game and you are correct. Cant blame them for not coming out mind for two reasons, the group was made up of some right mad bastards and they were hammering us by 3 or 4 iirc.

I can see that comment looks bad but it's how I honestly recollect things.

As you've probably never been in the middle of a bunch of Millwall supporters, in a big match, you wouldn't know.

They were dressed like the cast of a 'Big Fat Gypsy' programme and obviously preferred to spend their money on limos than shower gel.

It was like Boxing Day on the Fulwell End with a big dose of BO thrown in ...... sorry if that offends you.

I know through reading this thread, and similar threads over the years, people often suggest that Sunderland didn't really go looking for it but i remember them being fairly active for a few years around this time. Hibs, Everton, Millwall (fa cup and league), Hartlepool (services?) etc.

Sticking to the topic though, I've met some characters up there over the years and class a fair few of them as good friends now. Absolutely crackers but would do anything for you if needed, my type of people!

I can picture the scene on the bus two young lads first away day with the big uns. Its hilarious. My first away game 13 yr old on train to Sheff WED with my mate and six or seven older lads. Told my mam and dad I was going with my mates dad in the car. My parents never did find out that his dad had died about 5 years earlier and there was no responsible adult in the party. Me father would have flayed the skin off my backside. We got told to make our own way to and from the station to the ground the rest of them went drinking. 1971 and 13 year old wandering round Sheffield as green as grass. We did get a couple of cans on the way back, remember thinking I must be gay this beer tastes like shite. All us old uns were young uns once over its how you grow up. Mind I wou
ldn t condone the same for my kid/grandkid.
