This is why we need PR imho. There are a couple of hundred constituencies in this country where any daft get can get elected as long as they wear the right rosette. OK they have to go through a selection process, but some of the people doing that are clearly useless and in a safe constituency no-one really bothers because they can't change anything.

It will probably mean parties splinter into smaller ones and then form post election consensus governments, but consensus can be good and under PR every vote counts

When Lavery left his officials job in the NUM to become an MP in 2010,the outgoing MP Denis Murphy took over as the NUM official.
Corruption at it's finest.

Lavery received redundancy and was replaced.

Usually, when you make someone redundant, you don't replace them with someone doing the same job, because well, then they were not actually redundant, were they?

Let's be honest he needs hauling before a select committee to make the fooker answer the questions. The accounts were signed off by him and other members of the Northumberland miners assoc. and they also need hauling before a committee.

The number one fact remains, the miners had money....and lots of it, where did it go and who benefitted and to what extent and was any of it criminal, if any? And if any actions were criminal I'd assume fraud charges would be forthcoming for any wrong doers

The fact he's labours trade union spokesman makes it even more important he's seen to answer the questions and get to the bottom of it, as well as the other members of the executive committee.

It would also by definition warrant investigation into other branches of miners unions as well, was this sort of thing common practice? And if so how many other mystery sums of cash could be owed to surviving miners who put into the unions

I'm surprised a Tory hasn't jumped on this at PMQ's
I hope they do....as I'm glad when labour bods jump on the Tories
This isn't a party thing this is an honesty thing, and money that was generated off the sweat off miners backs and the killer illnesses suffered there after.

I find the panama thing of avoiding/evading tax is one thing. If it's found that any of the miners money has been misappropriated that's a whole different level of scumminess don't you think?

And all the associations need to be investigated for every last penny and how it was spent
