Ellis Short

Short was doing a fine job until 22nd September, 2013. He has brought all this odium on his head because he didn't stand by HIS man..

Is the right answer. Short should have had the bottle to take "that phone call" from Byrne and ask her to name the players involved. He then should have told them in no uncertain terms you are employed by this club to follow the instructions of the head coach, now either get on and do your jobs or play with the youth side until the next transfer window.
Di Canio was mad, an eccentric, prone to wild outbursts but he had our dressing room sussed. As long as the nucleus of spineless plodders rule the roost we are doomed.

For all the people criticizing ES, think about it for a moment. He's put his hand in HIS pocket and folked out more money than any other chairman in our history. And if your whinging hounds him out of the club you better quickly come up with a plan B and organise your own consortium because like it or not money is scarse and billionaire benefactors dont come along too often.

Unlike every other manager and chairman we've had the SAFC need to give Ellis and Gus time to make us better. Like it or not there isnt another viable alternative

Who takes the blame then? No one? Do we all just sit here happy that our club is turning to complete rat shit before our eyes?

Did I say any of that? No.

Maybe a number of people are responsible? There are several managers that have disappointed. There are many more players that have. There have been issues with members of the board too.

I just think that by trying to over simplify things and saying it's all the fault of ES it removes any culpability from other parties.

Should we get bob murray back in??????[DOUBLEPOST=1382260577][/DOUBLEPOST]Alternatives people? WHO?

This is spot on mate, and totally correct !!

Shorts inexperience at running a football club is glaringly obvious....no one in their right mind would have allowed so many players to drift into their last year without either re-negotiating (God help us!!) or getting rid

What compounds this is that the team management make this far worse by playing the fuckers

Dreadful administration by Short/Byrne & everyone involved

This bloke has ruined everything. Our longest run in the top flight in my life time and this complete fool has fucked up so bad that this season could potentially bring back the "worst team in history" title.

Remember the stick Bob Murray used to get? The bloke wasn't perfect by any means, but he was red n white and he knew his football. Short is clueless and has totally stripped our assets on the field while focusing solely on the clubs image. The fans couldn't give a fuck about the clubs image ffs.

Don't blame anyone else, it's Shorts fault we are in this mess.

God ....things in business, including footy....dont go tits up over night, they are a culmination of factors.....and we are still picking up the pieces from Quinn who I 'm grateful to on the whole, having the say so on gaffers.

He picked ex players who should not have been handed that kind of money, and never spent that kind of money...Keane and Bruce had never had riches like this, and they blew it....Keane's spending eliminated Drumaville, and Bruces buys have left this club with players we cant shift, and still play. Quinn knew his mistakes and got out....Whats short supposed to do like...he has been ill advised, and still pumps money in, his own money he earned. f***ing cheek people slagging off a man who has tried. Even the players I suppose are limited by their own skill, they just should have been moved on seasons ago...but guess what, they get the gaffer fired first, cos you cant fire a player.

I think they were trying toget rid of most of them. Nobody would take them.

Oh I think youre right - However they should have been sidelined, the fact that these players are still in the team is the main reason why we got one point in 8 games

Exactly the fact we are starting this season relying on the crap from the last two seasons is why we are where we are. A result of poor decisions at all levels over a number of years and total waste of a fortune spent.

selling our 2 best players along with losing our best defender
I'm not going to have a pop at ES, and I bet he isn't too happy and scratching his head. But in any business which is failing, the man at the top is where the buck stops. So in essence your correct. Is he being badly advised ? Fuck knows, but it's not good.

If he thought spending 20 million on 14 players, 12 million for which went on 2 of them was a good idea then he hasnt got much of a clue about football

That along with selling your 2 best players and not replacing your best defender who returned to spurs

All that for a team that narrowly avoided the drop last year, hes got it terribly wrong

I think Ellis Short must have the worst PR of any high profile person i can think off. We might as well be run by Lord Lucan.

Despite him being here a number of years i still don't think the majority of people know his true intentions, even if they are for the good. I accept he isn't a media whore and he prefers to keep himself to himself but the silence definitely unnerves people. There comes a time when someone needs to step up and re-assure the masses.
Just like his share dealing he'd make a great poker player but this isn't poker and it isn't a one man game. People look to him for leadership and guidance, i can't speak for club employees but i think the majority of fans feel isolated and haven't got a clue with the "real" battle plan is.

In truth, i think if he came out and said he was skint and the club was in real trouble the fans would rally round and support him. On the other hand some fans are starting to wonder if he's taking the piss. In my opinion not knowing is worse than knowing the truth and dealing with it.

I still appreciate what Ellis is doing for the club but until he actually gets the message across better he'll be treated by suspicion by many. That isn't good for someone in his position, even if his intentions are good.

I really don't think many would support him if he came out and said he has invested a fortune and the club needs to become self sufficient. This thread is proof of that! Although I agree it would be good to get a strategy from the club.

I didn't say that though because being self sufficient "FOR NOW" suggests that he has money to sort out the problems short term but isn't prepared to do so.

I said if he came out with a statement that he was now skint and more importantly the club was in serious financial trouble the fans could then start to rally round either with or without Ellis.
It's the fans not knowing and him not relaying the message across properly to everyone that's causing the uncertainty and mistrust.
As i said in my first post, his Public Relations is as bad as you could possibly get. His heart, effort and time may be massively into this club but from the outside it doesn't look that way because he doesn't let people know what's going on through all the appropriate channels.

Some intelligent posts on here for a change.

With regards Short being clueless on football, having spunked millions on shit he probably realised this and appointed his guru, Rdf, and took a back seat.

Its Rdf Id expect to be justifying decisions/detailing strategies. Where is he? Or is he just a glorified scout?

Saying that, people overcomplicate the sport, surely any clubs strategy is win as many matches as possible and see where it gets you, for us its the championship.
