Saw that... the obvious worry for KP is that there's only a week and a half to the third test.

But is Pietersen really that indispensable to this team? Two years ago yes, but not for a while now. Particularly not when playing a team as poor as Australia are righ now.

The World record for any 4th innings run chase is only 418 .....we already passed the record of chasing 344 at Lords

I'm going for a declaration with a lead of 430

2 days left marra.

Personally I wouldve declared. but I can see why we carried on a bit, demoralise them and let our batters bully their bowlers a bit more. 45 mins of smashing it about in the morning then declare. No way can there batters survive 2 days imo.

yes. Pietersen would leave a gaping hole in the middle order. May not change the course of the series but he will score big at some point if he stays fit

Good article here:

Football is a fantastic sport but cricket is such a complex game. You have to be pretty intelligent to understand the sport as its very psychological.

Cricket captains are the manager of the team too.

You don't drop a mercurial talent like Pietersen on the back of one bad match.

Pietersen seems to be obsessed with his injuries and often appears to rule himself out of games/series before the prognosis is in......remember the "on the plane before the x-ray" fiasco in Aus 06/07?

Feel sorry for Siddle and Harris today. They cannot get much rest due the batsman letting them down

I do, slightly.
They must have asked Clarke about the new ball, I found it very bizarre he didn't take it to try and do something, anything, to get his side some wickets.
That was the main weapon he had at his disposal for me today.

I'm guessing that Clarke has accepted his fate and was trying to take time out of teh game - the new ball often goes for lots of runs when the batsmen are set and the game is stacked in teh batting side's favour. Also, probably protecting Harris in the hope that the next test will be winable

Also, fewer and fewer state schools play cricket these days. It's difficult to justify the cost in equipment and facilities, for a sport that many boys will consider a 'toffs sport'.

Possibly right there, it's just very strange seeing the Australians almost surrender.

Are you insane? I mean certifiably mental?

You think he's indispensable? I'm not saying drop him, just that the team would cope without him. Are you saying we'd lose this series if he got injured and didn't play? No.

There's a difference between important and indispenable
