Interesting Roy Keane fact

Straight off the bat Dwight Yorke cost 500k he wasn't free as he was still under contract for another year with Sydney but they received an offer they couldn't refuse. They had spent huge sums for us on that first ever A League season with Yorke as the Marquee signing and Pierre Litbarski as coach. It was unsustainable so when Sunderland came calling with an offer they snapped their hands off. Yorke didn't even want to go IIRC.

The majority of those were not bad signings and did a job. At the end of the day, we firstly got promoted and secondly haven't been relegated yet.

What's our longest run in the top flight that anyone on here has seen?

Well done Roy.

The only roy keane signing that worked was jonny evans and he was a loan.
The rest were a waste of fees and wages

Fucks sake man what a load of shite

Keane's second book would prove this is incorrect surely, said in his phone call with Yorke that he fancied the move

Yes down to the first half of the season. What moyes was left with was the basis of a decent team. He had 7 weeks and 30 million to try and kick on.

Aye - the talent on show here is eye watering.

Centre back, full back, 2 centre mids and a striker. If we need anymore use the youths or stop games like Pienaar. Would of been a much better approach than the 9 or 10 he signed in the summer for me

Good enough to take 27 points from 19 games and only losing 4 in that run. Hoy in 2 players who both would have singed for around 10 mil (yedlin and mvilla) and you have the basis of a decent team with around 20 mil still in the pot. Easy this management business.

Add M'Vila and Yedlin to that list. We could have still signed those two and Ndong, whilst bringing in Januzaj (even though he's very average).

£30m isn't anywhere near a massive outlay. It's clear Moyes and co. didn't get anywhere near the players he wanted and some of that will have been down to our recent league finishes. I've a feeling it may have been different had Sam been here but even he was getting vocal before he left about the lack of transfer activity (though that may have just been to give a better excuse for why he was leaving).

Kaboul is clearly a massive miss for us but even he was pretty shocking before Sam arrived. That's nothing to do with Moyes. He was leaving anyway. Cattermole, Kirchhoff and Borini would all start and the back ups just aren't anywhere near as good, but that's the same at any club. Kahzri came back from the summer grossly and umprofessionally unfit. As for M'Vila, paying someone £7m for a player we can and are getting for free in January in poor business no matter which way you look at it. Some might want I argue differently but one player isn't the root cause of our problems.

But Moyes wasn't left with Yedlin and M'Vila was he - they weren't our players. We all know the M’Vila situation and even by the time Allardyce had left in July or whenever, no contact had been made regarding Yedlin. He did well in the run in but for large parts of the season he was either poor or couldn’t get in the team and it seems to me that Allardyce wasn’t particularly keen on him either.

That's why I said we could have signed them.

We could have signed both players for a total of 10-12m. That would have left us with another 18-20m to spend.

Yedlin was a decent player, no worse than Manquillo, plus he's only 22/23. He has pace and could have certainly done a job for us. We're now relying on a loan player who is rather average and we'll have to replace him at the end of the season anyhow. For £4m, Yedlin would not lose any value imo. It would have been a decent, sensible signing.

That fact just highlights the clubs biggest problem for years as being not spending money, but spending money buying loads of shite for small fees.

This. If Moyes has said he needed 9 players then giving him £30m is ridiculous. Doesn't excuse the absolute dross he signed, mind.

Signing both of them made sense which makes it all the more baffling that we didn't. We would have been as strong as last year and could have added a bit.

The way we went about things is nothing short of barmy and we deserve everything we get. I personally think Moyes' ego got in the way and he wanted 'his team' * well, he's got it.

We didn't have to sell kaboul, he was under contract like kone. Moyes/Short chose to let him go.
You honestly think we are getting Mvilla in Jan for free?? It was poor business not signing a premier league player for 7 million.
