Interesting Roy Keane fact

In 2007/08 Keane spent 43.8 million, which is way more than Moyes got to spend in this close season, not allowing for the Sky money inflation!

Kind of puts the 'massive outlay' in the summer in perspective.

But if Roy could not succeed with that sort of cash, why do some think he can be some sort of white knight figure who saves the season?

When will you be posting the interesting fact?
Thought Roy deserved his own thread, as many were shouting him out as a potential saviour

Tbf I'd say Roy did succeed. We're an established  prem club now but back then we had been relegated with a record lows points haul. He needed to build a squad to get us up and a squad to keep us up.

He successfully did both.

Love Keano me.

Roy was trying to establish his newly promoted side and get among the bigger premier teams.

Moyes took over perennial relegation battlers, mid pre-season, and was scrabbling around for bargains to add to a threadbare squad
Or moyes took over a team that had took 27 points from their final 19 games and had 7 weeks to try and improve the team with around 30 million to spend.

And which finished two points above relegation in 17th!

Wonder how the 30 million is structure - all up front, over several years, depending on performance, etc.

Also, if it is true the team is putting relegation clauses in contracts, that makes it even tougher to draw players. Who wants their wages halved after a bad season?

Every club outside of the top 6 will have relegation clauses.

Except the mags, it would seem.

You do realise that the majority of transfer fees are spread out over a few years for all clubs?

Yeah, but often the quoted 'figures' only come into effect if a player fulfills certain criteria, such as number of appearances, etc, so the supposed 30 million may be much lower

The same time Ranieri took over at relegation strugglers Leicester then....
One swallow does not a summer make, or somesuch nonsense!

That fact just highlights the clubs biggest problem for years as being not spending money, but spending money buying loads of shite for small fees.
To be fair, in those days the fees for good players were much lower

Likewise the £43.8 Keane spent

Indeed the current situation reminds me of Coventry City, who for years hung on by the skin of their teeth......

While Sunderland signed all those players, Moyes over at Everton signed:

17 March 2007 FW England Lukas Jutkiewicz England Swindon Town Undisclosed
4 July 2007 DF England Phil Jagielka England Sheffield United £4m
7 August 2007 DF England Leighton Baines England Wigan Athletic £5m
21 August 2007 GK Germany Stefan Wessels Germany 1. FC Köln Free
29 August 2007 FW Nigeria Yakubu Aiyegbeni England Middlesbrough £11.25m
14 January 2008 MF England Dan Gosling England Plymouth Argyle £1m

Baines and Jagielka are still first teamers......
