Yorkshire v Durham : CC September 24

It’s a long time since my football team showed exceptionally more team spirit and effort than my cricket team but the boot is on the other pad now because the cricket team has gone totally bails up big time and are hapless

Just offload the whole ****** mess to Riyadh FC.

Most importantly, our football team have had a great day so the cricket club can FRO.

Well that was a shambolic and woeful end to what has been a utter disaster of a season with a bat and ball, with high hopes expected in April. Let's be completely honest, we totally deserved to be relegated based off that performance alone, but overall we’ve not deserved to stay up. If Hampshire didn't get an 8 point we would have comfortably been relegated. If we did draw today we would have been lucky to be playing Division 1 cricket next year and the club should have capitalised on the opportunity given to us this morning. The way we capitulated today just sums it all up really. This is a huge wake up call and over the winter the club should a major reshuffle on and off the pitch. It’s been a disappointing year.

It doesn’t help that England sidelined Potts for a lot of the year and his inactivity seemed to help him lose his form.

I’m surprised they chose him for Oz

He’s only missed 3 games and has had a very poor season with a very poor return, only 29 wickets. Potts himself will admit he’s had a bad season. He’s one of a few players who have massively underperformed this year

It’s a good job there’s only two divisions.
The way I’m thinking is that this current lot would just prop up any minor counties league.
I know it’s harsh but it just sums up my disgust at their poor efforts

It feels like more than 3, but with Wood out, Carse away and Stokes also unavailable, for England to take Potts and not use him has severely hampered the Durham attack

Beat you by years -Durham playing Indians at Ashbrooke 1959 ish with a schoolboy Colin Milburn scoring a century. Mind the that doesn't stop the much younger Hundred devotees on here telling me that I know nowt about cricket.
Is it wise to give your age away to the younger knowalls?
You auld sad grumpy git from one to another:lol:

As I have said for years about Mr North, he's only interested in himself and his own personal gains, likewise Bostock who wanted the top job at the ECB. Recruitment has been an absolute disgrace and I'm still pissed off we have allowed a promising hard working young academy lad in Killeen leave whilst we are offering outsiders longer contracts, it just doesn't sit right with me at all. Once again I have banged the drum all season about injuries to bowlers, that points towards coaching/fitness techniques as the amount of injuries just isn't bad luck at all, they're doing something wrong and when they are fit we are poor and that falls on the coach Mr Onions who has had an incredibly easy ride this season. Obviously repeating what I have said about Bostock, like North only interested in himself and his franchise cricket aspirations along with North, they had their fingers in the Leeds team the pair of them, with Bostock a former director and North was seen pitch side with that team numerous times. Tough times for the club after a lot of hard work to get back, and whilst some people weren't fans of Mr Botham, I'd have him back tomorrow, he has a presence about him, got the club, mixed well with members and overall did a canny job sorting out the mess after the relegation. Since Bostock, North and Collins (I have no idea what he does) have had free reign, things have rapidly turned to shit in just about every section and that has now found it's way onto the pitch and I honestly believe this lot gambled on this reduction going through meaning we would be ok in the top division. To bring a club cricketer in for a relegation run in, has been an absolute disgrace of a decision and heads need to roll for this because it's simply not good enough and this isn't a one off.... remember Chemar Holder last season who was playing at some point last year in the Derbyshire cricket leagues?

I'm saddened what has happened this season, I believe we'll be relegated and if by miracle we aren't the above points remain and people need chasing out of this club as they have massively under performed and let this club and county down massively.

It's simply not good enough after a lot of hard work to get us back to division 1, the neglect this season has been unforgiveable and in my opinion verging arrogance from certain areas of the club.

Rant over

I credit Botham with that, he was superb for this club, will always praise him for what he did for Durham. Bostock saw Durham as a stepping stone, zero affiliation with the club and absolutely zero respect for members.

Well Durham relegated. Obviously I stand behind everything I've said above and again I'll repeat myself about Mr North, never wanted him here, still don't want him here. Regarding Bostock, same applies with him, I've been critical of him for a long time and this is a man who called county members "Luddites", who was responsible for the student uni event farce and promised it wouldn't happen again... he lied and who ultimately oversaw the "we have consulted members" statement, and then weeks later was found out to be telling lies in front of us all at the members forum which was conveniently arranged AFTER the vote went in, again showing what he thinks of us members and also he was wanting the top ECB job not too long ago which he didn't get, again highlights he has no care or affiliation for Durham. A former director of the Leeds 16.4 which North was sniffing about with also, his priorities lie with 16.4 franchise cricket and he was hell bent on reducing the county game and ironically that hasn't been forgotten about on the county cricket facebook groups, clearly gambled on us "staying up" that way and it's back fired, incredibly arrogant outlook. He was also very rude and arrogant at said members forum which many on here will vouch for.

That incompetence and arrogance has found it's way all over the club and sadly now onto the pitch and we've paid the price.

Recruitment has been absolutely disgusting, said a lot on this and the Killeen situation still really annoys me. To give outsiders 3 year pro deals, and to basically toss away a Durham lad is unforgiveable. We are a club based on solid foundations/ethics of "looking after our own" and "bringing through our own" and that is a proud tradition of this club, and North/Bostock and to an extent Campbell have dismantled this. I've defended Campbell more than some on here have, but ultimately he has to take ownership of some selections which have been baffling. After the weak bottle job surrender today, I think it's only fair he is questioned, having only defended him the other day on here, that today is completely unacceptable and questions need to be asked. Back to recruitment, this is where I sort of have sympathy for Campbell, as North has brought some absolute dross to the club and he did last season at times, he needs to either be sacked or do the decent thing and resign along with Bostock. Sadly however neither will leave, they don't care about my opinion, nor of any members.

Mr Onions..... he's had a very easy ride this season but it's not gone unnoticed.... can anyone name anything positive he's brought to the table this year? Another one on thin ice and should be held accountable for this mess. It's not "bad luck" we have had so many injuries to bowlers this season and this and the physio/fitness teams all need to address this.

Mentality with the batting has been dire, a lot of piss poor shots, not understanding the game situation and basically just not producing. Gay has had 5 ducks this season, joint 2nd highest in the County Championship, that is beyond unacceptable, he has a lot to learn and he doesn't fill me with my confidence, must improve.

Looking at the batting averages it's not great is it?

Take away the early 2 scores by Ackermann, he will be struggling to average about 17-18 since the end of April? Rhodes, Robinson very poor overall, and Bedingham equally as poor and McKinney hasn't helped himself. Clark averaged 42 and scored 768 runs which I believe is a good effort. The rest have massively under performed and it's simply not good enough.

Bowling I've mentioned above, only Ben Raine anywhere near good enough, that lad is Durham through and through along with Clarky. 44 wickets @ 27 isn't a bad effort, he has never let us down and 26 with the bat is a good solid season, well done Ben.

The One Day Cup effort was unacceptable and whilst we made a T20 1/4 final, it was all just very meh.

I look back to that Somerset home game, it was a huge turning point. I didn't mind the Warwickshire home defeat I backed the lads with that one, but since Somerset in May it has been dire.

Captaincy must change, quietest field ever, questionable decisions game after game and it simply hasn't worked.

Ideally I want to see a clear out, I want to see a statement from the club, not just some brief YouTube video from Campbell and I want to see resignations. I appreciate it won't happen but I'm just sounding off because I'm pissed off after hard work to get back into division 1, we've neglected things and paid the price.

That was disgusting today though and it tells you so so much about the desire and mentality of a lot of these players and truth be told I'd not be arsed who leaves because today has told me so so much about them, they are very weak minded. Early season I was praising the effort/desire but it's quickly gone horribly wrong and many of us noticed it and mentioned it on here

For a club whose members sacrificed covid membership money, to be treated like this by those at the top is beyond disgusting and unforgiveable.

Comms at the club is rubbish it's gone massively backwards after Botham left the club a fairly close knit one, Bostock/Collins/North have absolutely destroyed that. Our media team couldn't even be arsed to report on the score after lunch, that about sums up the club really.

Worried for next season unless some leave and changes are made with playing staff.

A sad end to a very poor season.

I had an awful dream last night. As best as I can recall, Hants were one run short then there was a confusing run out. Not sure whether they drew level before being all out as I woke up in a panic.
I had an awful dream last night. Surrey kindly beat Hants and our game was going on at the same time and Yorkshire lost their last wicket too. A little fat ginger bloke in big white gloves said to our players that all was going to be well. However he cast a mysterious spell on our team which had the effect that they all changed into people who were being paid handsomely by an organisation to play cricket but appeared to have never played the game before. They seemed to relish getting themselves out in the stupidest way possible. They didn’t seem too bothered though and were tucking into their fish suppers at the Wetherby Whaler a hour or two later. Thankfully the dream was over before tea-time.

A bit too long to get printed on a t-shirt or on a banner attached to a light aircraft. Spot on though. The charity book shop women escaped your ire, the absolute bastards.

If its any help they worship the ground Bostock walks on as I sadly discovered the day after his infamous Members Meeting walkout
If it helps the cause I'm willing to get the LMC band back together next season. Hopefully Brando is available 🤔 All names , within reason are welcome to join.

After the gift from Hamps, I cannot believe how it ended up. Commentator on BBC radio said he saw it coming at start of our innings! Something about today doesn't sit right with me. It was so bad it makes me question if the players wanted it. Shot selections so bad, they seemed to 'give' their wickets away. Probably overthinking things after listening to a podcast on throwing footy games. I think Esh Winning would have beaten Durham today. Gutted.
