Wrestling - Part 3

Worth noting that Khan's dad tried to actually buy Wembley from the FA a few years ago.
Probably made it easier for them to sort out with the FA, plus obviously them owning Fulham, never in a million years did I think they’d do a show at Wembley mind 😂

Think the pricing is going to have to be set right , will get a lot of interest from Europe too.

Just signed up for presale

Wondering how they will set it up, like you say they’ll have big interest from Europe and it’s the most watched wrestling show in the UK (obviously being on ITV helps) so I assume Khan has a good idea on what to expect.

Looking forward to it been waiting along time.

When i go to NFL before there had a German game the amount of European interest was massive.

If its priced right I could see them getting close to a sell out , considering grand slam is there biggest event and was just over 20 thousand shows what a massive job Tony has to book this

Surprised really they didn't just have it at Craven Cottage, which would still have been a huge event and difficult to sell out.

I suppose they could still switch it there if ticket sales fall flat, though that might be a bit humiliating so I guess they'd rather just do Wembley with a lot of covered seats.

Hope it sells well though.

I like the ambition, but I fear Khan's stretching himself out too much too soon.

The main reason is simply being AEW don't have a British star.

Drew headlined Clash
British Bulldog headlined Summerslam '92.

Would they sell out Craven Cottage? Yes.
Would they sell out a slightly bigger venue, Stadium of Light for example? Yes

But 80,000 is a Wrestlemania sized event and they don't have the British star power for it atm.

Jamie Hayter, Saraya, Pac, Blackpool Combat Club... Load of European talent too remember. I dunno, seems like a stretch, but haway the AEW.

This announcement points me in the direction that Pepsi Phil will be back with them too, he'd put more bums in seats than the rest of them combined.

See you've just proved my point. You've just given me names and I thought who the fuck are they and I watch Wrestling so imagine what your typical fella is gonna think

Everyone certainly knew who British Bulldog was.
Drew, not exactly megastar but certainly not who da fook is dat guy territory either unlike the names you just gave me.

The shows aren't even live on UK TV. I doubt they even get an audience of 80k on a regular basis.

Wrestling and the WWF was a huge craze here in the early 90s, everyone at my school was certainly into it at that time. I'm sure it helped that the Bulldog was headlining but I think the WWF was big enough to sell out either way at that particular time.

Attendances were lower for everything in those days mind. England games at Wembley would often barely draw more than 20k. Only 25k for Bruno v Lewis for the heavyweight title in 1993!

I wish them well, and with the right promotion huge crowds are possible for most things in London these days, but this does seem like an enormous stretch.

Imagine Will Ospreay v Kenny Omega at Wembley man. Incredible scenes. Should make it a two nighter so we can have The Elite v CMFTR as well.
