Wrestling - Part 3

Well this thread basically sum’s up that no one give a shit about the so called biggest show for wrestling last night, there was some decent wrestling last night in a few matches TBF but I honestly struggled to watch it (give a shit) hopefully AJ and Edge can put on a good match (if given the time)

Haven’t watched a WM since 20 but thought I’d give it a go this year.

Fuck me wrestling has changed. Just the quality of it.
I’ve been watched all the old ppv’s on the network from the 90’s and early 2000’s. Nowadays , Everything is much slower, much more clumsy and cumbersome.
I know he was a piece of shit but long gone are the days of Benoit etc, such clean, quick and technical wrestling. Everything was crisp. The bumps much better.

Is the talent just not as good as it once was?

Very nostalgic watching Austin but was moving in treacle man.

Marra it’s more just wwe has changed ( obviously gotten worse) there is plenty of great wrestling out there AEW, NJPW, Stardom, Impact, all the indies etc) the problem is wwe don’t care about pro wrestling it’s more entertainment and a spectacle to them imo.

Wonder how much Austin got paid for that

They’re obviously still selling tickets and that but the spectacle was absolutely shocking mind. The quality of matches lifting,
Watched WM17 the other day, compare that to this and it’s literally night and day.
Edit:
Austin was class mind, giving the fans their monies worth. Didn’t want to leave
Wonder how much he’s had to give WWE to promote his beer

Honestly I said on here I didn’t like the idea of him having a match when it was rumoured he was coming back for the show, I thought having his career end against the rock was perfect albeit we didn’t know that was the end at the time, same with Foley ‘retiring’ after the HHH feud, then coming back about 20 times.
I’m sure he made a good few million though 😂 which I guess is good for himself it was entertaining I just hope he’s done now and doesn’t come back for Saudi shows (ie money)

It's just been diluted over the years. Late 90s/early 00s still mostly trained by the old lot who looked after the business and actually wrestled. They'd go through months of just being stretched before they were even taught how to do a headlock.

Matches were built on ring psychology, telling a story and drawing the crowd in but once they pulled the curtain down in the Attitude Era it was essentially doomed.

Now it's mainly about entertainment, acrobats doing loads of spots, most don't even make sense but can be impressive. You still get a few guys spread about who have some old school appeal but it's never gonna get to the heights it did in the 80/90s ever again.

Just the way things go. With the internet looming their just wasn't a way where they could continue to conceal the secrets of the business (sure most people knew it was fake but now they know everything about it from referee signals to what the wretslers are up to on their days off).

Your better off just watching it and thinking off it like a machismo soap opera with impressive athletes. Makes it easier to enjoy.

Dallas cheerleaders, Charlotte popping out twice, only thing missing from @Ceverton fantasy would have been Alexa Bliss.
Really miss you big guy, especially for weekends like this.

Enjoyed the 1st night, must be honest that i didnt think lynch v belair was as good as people are making out, thought it was very sloppy and Lynchs timing was just off throughout...just ask Belairs nose.

Austin must have got a fortune, but fair play, very safe match barring 1 concrete bump but hugely fun and memorable.

Rhodes v Rollins match of the night. They better not screw Cody over again.

Flair v rousey was good but should have been a submission match given thats all they seemed to go for.

Tbf the rock will always be his last proper match..lot like Takers last proper Wrestlemania match is reigns not the squash v cena.
Hope he stays retired now 1st and last match in Dallas, dont do a Michaels and come back down the line even though physically he looked good last night.

@Ceverton is a miss on here, think my only interactions with the lad were on this thread. Cracking fella.

Why do they do that?
Probably just the extra money from ticket sales as they could easily have done this show on one night.
Edit: it feels like they tried to copy Wrestle Kingdom (new Japan) in having 2 nights but new Japan put on a shit tonne of big matches that allows for 2 nights.

More shite resulting from the brand split.

Add in the increased importance of the women's division (which unlike the brand split I actually like) and there is more than a full night's worth just to do the title matches.

But spreading it over two nights just dilutes the quality, and its not as if they have a stacked roster to start with.

Splitting the brands and having most of the titles replicated in the women's division means they've nearly quadrupled the number of titles from back in the day, such that they are pretty meaningless. Yet you have to have most of the titles defended on a PPV.

I only watch it on and off now and haven't watched it at all really for months. Looking at the card beforehand then other than looking forward to seeing Stone Cold, the only matched I had much interest in over the entire card were Lesnar/Reigns, Becky/Bianca and Charlotte/Ronda.

I don't know how they go about bringing back the excitement, but for me having one champion has got to be part of it, and hopefully that's where they might be headed with the champion v champion match.

End the brand split , 1 world champion, 1 womens champion, ic title and the us, scrap the rest, sack Bruce Pritchard and have Vince retire with hhh taking over and then maybes we can have a good show.
Oh a one tag titles
