What about fat, spotty, ginger, skinny, baldy, ugly, whitey or little? Would being called those offend you? Sticks and stones IMO. ( I would not condone racism, but as the song goes, its only words). It depends on what the individual deems offensive. I expect bad language (and often use it myself) enduring poor performances. You can give a player shit without having to make it about his skin colour, so it should never have to be about that. I personally wouldn't be offend by a comment about someone being soft if they were called a fairy/puff when they bottled a tackle or were rolling about on the floor but maybe others would. Perhaps that makes me a bit homophobic. I'm not an ignoramus and do understand the traditional connection with effete homosexuality but I know gay friends who use the same expression in a similar context. Is it the same as black rappers using the N word? They can but I can't?
Maybe I should book myself onto a diversity workshop?
"Get up you soft hetro!" will be my new go to shout of abuse.
