Would you challenge racism/homophobia at the game?

I once heard racist abuse at a game and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t challenge it or report it, some others around me must of done something about it as he was kicked out after half time, I said after that game I would report it if I ever heard it again like.

It’s not as rare as we would like to think

I think there's a difference in the two examples you posted. The 'puff' comment probably wouldn't be aimed at someone gay, for instance, which might alter the perspective.
I agree and that’s pretty much what I mean when I said I’d be more offended by the racism. I think you can “get away” with a lot more homophobic slurs by the fact most footballers aren’t actually gay.

Did it a few years ago with a lad who was selective of Anton Ferdinands skin colour, but avoided another one away at Blackburn basically because the lad was in with a group of 15 and I was with 2 mates

This story doing the rounds now on Twitter, worth a read (you don't need Twitter to view it...)

Really disappointing to hear, and the lad and his Dad in question should be hoyed out and never allowed back in as far as I'm concerned. Disappointed that neither were reported to stewards by the lad posting the story nor by the surrounding fans who would have witnessed it.

So, how would you deal with this behaviour? Tell a steward? Or do you fear the potential violent repercussions from braindead aggressive bigoted scum?

.. Both were out of order .. Mind you, I wouldn't blame a father if he knocked you out if you were giving his son shit. I'd knock the son out when we got home as well mind ..

I would have reported it to the nearest steward, if they didn't take the right action, then I would've penned a letter to the club stating what happened and that no action was taken at the time.

Get 3 birds with one stone.

Still, pathetic that this is still going on in this day and age. Those two wouldn't have the balls to say it to his or any other players face...

Both. Any kind of that shite.

It's time it was eradicated and folk were educated. It's embarrassing for the club and the fan base.

Being from a backward horse drawn pit village is no longer an excuse.
Depends on how big they were. If they were geet hard I would probably just grass them up.
Mind I was offered outside for a straightner today at the SOL just for bumping into a blokes lass on the concourse at HT having a pint. So I can't be f***ing arsed with all this billy big bollocks stuff.

Yes, absolutely. If something is wrong, don't be silent - if you don't report it then you are accepting that it's ok.

I reported a bloke beside me a while back for calling Bent a "f***ing Black ****" when he missed a chance. He begged to not be reported - too f***ing late. Absolutely disgusting to utter those words. Anyone making those types of comments are scum and shouldn't be allowed into the stadium. Fuck them.

I have twice reported people to the police in the ground once away and once at home. On neither occasion was my report taken seriously and on both occasions the abuse continued and the person left the ground without being challenged.

Bloke who sits behind me has it right in for McGeady and I’ve heard him call him an ‘Irish c*nt’ at times, today he even referred to Ross as a ‘stupid Scottish c*nt’ after about five minutes into the games. Didn’t say anything cos I’ve already had a run in with him this season.

Was at Bolton a fair few year back & the lad in front of me called out the lad next to me for singing about the size of Brambles manhood. Bloke in front was furious & got really upset. Said it was trivialising something or other.

We don't know that though.
You shouldn't be looking to " getting away" with anything.

Surely slurs are wrong full stop?
