Would a real life Batman work?

With the police resources being stretched, assuming there was a Batman character turned up doing the criminals in and stopping robberies etc. would this be saluted or stopped?

The online paedophile catchers seem to get a lot of support, so if there was a bloke battering young uns up to anti social behaviour would the police try and arrest him or would they turn a blind eye and be able deploy resources more effectively ?

I know Spiderman got a lot of grief off the newspapers saying he was a criminal but they were wrong.
Put the glue bag away.

With the threat of what?...

The book Seduction of the Innocent in 1954 suggested that both Batman and Robin were in a relationship. Note that the age wasnt a problem or the fact that Batman had a school boy friend he wasn't directly related to, or that he made him dress up in tights and a weird bat-thong... but the fact they were both blokes was an issue? Following the voluntary code of conduct that was instigated after a congressional investigation ; comics very quietly dropped schoolboy followers for superheros.

So I guess he was under threat of some sort of kiss and tell revelation.

He would end up spending half of his time at mental health jobs waiting for an ambulance or crisis team to ring back whilst being called a nonce and told to fuck off
