Yes I think that is a pretty good comparison if i'm honest. Rhodes did have excellent movement and was an excellent one touch finisher.

That is a valid point worth debating/considering but one which ultimately can’t be proven either way.

I’d say the way a lot of teams set up against us limits the frequency with which we create chances. His movement and ability to find space in the box makes me personally think that it’s not largely through a fault of his own. Having said that if we had someone that was more involved in the general play then perhaps it would stretch defences more and make it less comfortable for them. As I say, who knows.

Maja isn't lightening but surely he's quicker than Rhodes? He's painfully slow

He does create some chances for himself, its not like he doesn't do it.

He's young, so that obviously counts in his favour as he might (although not all players do) keep developing. Purely on stats though I found the following

16/17 league one season, James Vaughan 24 goals in 37 (one every 1.54 games)

18/19 league one season Josh Maja 14 goals in 22 games (one every 1.57 games)

So basically he's currently doing what James Vaughan has done, a player utterly useless in the Championship. Tin hat on, if I had to choose I'd probably take 16/17 Vaughan ahead of 18/19 Maja because, in addition to his similar (slightly better) goal ratio, he has more of an all round game.

This isn't meant to be critical of Maja, but some very average players have done what he's doing thus far. He's not doing so well in a shit league that we can predict premier league success! For me he's better staying here, playing, developing his game and seeing how far he can go. His choice obviously but if he goes I doubt he'll make an immediate impact on a higher league so getting regular football might not be easy

Goals per min is a better yardstick than goals per game.

Maja goal every 121 mins
Vaughan 128 mins

Maja doing better 10 and a half years younger than Vaughan.(albeit Vaughan was 2 years younger then, so 8 and half years)

Get what you're saying but only thing I'd say back is that we actually don't create that many chances for Maja (or in general)

I know, just find it interesting that, for all we're impressed by his goal record, it's not actually that outstanding for this league and has been recently matched a pretty dreadful player like Vaughan who probably also contributed more aside from goals that season. Obviously want Maja to stay and hope he can progress but if he goes we're not exactly losing someone who is guaranteed to be a success in the league above

A big part of it certainly early in the season was he was isolated and usually had two CB's for company.
 
Can people not just enjoy Maja for what he is? A good, young player doing very well for us. It's as if posters are purposely looking for holes in his game to vindicate the fact that we won't miss him when he leaves. It's so odd and has been repeated over the years, often in respect to our better players.

He’s 10 years younger than Vaughan

It’s not about him being a guaranteed success it’s about having a long term vision and having players and a team who can Grow as a club

It’s absolutely vital we keep him

Possibly Teddy Sherringham who did not build his game around pace and strength. Touch, movement and great finishing just like our boy Josh.

To be honest I think Sheringham was a wonderful player but also very strong on the ball. He was a deep lying player though, really good in the air but as much a provider as a centre forward. I take your point about pace though.

He wasn't a deep lying player in the early part of his career though, very much a goal poacher. Clinical, much like Maja has been this season.

I don’t enjoy watching players who won’t be here next season (or in a few weeks) who are actively trying to leave the club while pretending they aren’t.
