He wasn't a deep lying player in the early part of his career though, very much a goal poacher. Clinical, much like Maja has been this season.

Yes fair enough - I saw him for the first time away at Millwall early on in McM*****ys reign. He was up front with Fashanu. That said by the time he was a successful premiership player at Forest (to some degree) and Spurs he was much more deep lying because he recognized that he didn't have the strength and pace to be as successful at the top level as he had at the levels below. Who knows Maja might do the same.

I know, just find it interesting that, for all we're impressed by his goal record, it's not actually that outstanding for this league and has been recently matched a pretty dreadful player like Vaughan who probably also contributed more aside from goals that season. Obviously want Maja to stay and hope he can progress but if he goes we're not exactly losing someone who is guaranteed to be a success in the league above
He’s considerably younger than Vaughan with bags of potential, Vaughan was at his peak that season.. no comparison in my opinion.

SD just liked this tweet:

said safc had spoken with a striker. it can't be grigg as we haven't had an offer accepted. probably more irons in the fire.

Not at all costs but more than reported 5k like even if that’s what he originally asked for

Don’t see why that’s such a controversial ask

Would save us a fortune in the long term
I’d take that number with a pinch of salt mate. We offered him what he asked for, that much is certain. The rest is conjecture. All boils down to what you want to beleive I suppose. Pretty much like all reports these days.

Not saying he will sign or even that he's the striker we have spoken to but a fee doesn't necessarily have to be agreed before you can speak to someone. You just need to have permission from the club.

no according to this. apparently refused to do business. also who's McNulty?
Scored a load of goals and impressed for Coventry in League 2 last season. Looks a exceptional player at that that level. I’m not sure whether a move to the Championship was up a level too high for him or whether the turmoil at Reading has affected him.

Given the financial position we are in then it wouldn’t surprise me to lose a few. At the end of the day, there is little the club can do beyond the available budget. They won’t be able to compete with Premier League teams who will offer comparatively daft wages. It will be a risk though as we need to get promoted but at this level they should be able to pick a proven finisher up for relative buttons. It will lead to a rebuild but there will be a few of them.

Yeah if he goes to the premier league fair enough but if he goes to the championship then I’ll be disappointed. I get trying to keep it tight but I’ve said all season the young players are the priority, id rather keep them and not buy as much in the summer. My gut feeling is that we might take it too far in negotiations trying to save cash, but maybe I’m wrong. Not asking people to agree with me like but I’d like the club to reward young players meaning we don’t need to sign a new team every season, think it would be a culture to promote within the club, young footballers can make it here. If we lose a few from the academy for nothing then I’d be slightly dispondent

So if he asked for £5k a week then we should have offered him more?
