I cant think of a similar type of player to Maja that is successful at the top level? that said he would be a big blow to lose this season.
I can think of two. Chicharito, but he's more of a poacher than touch-and-shoot as Maja has done lot.
The other is Jon Dahl Tomasson. Great finishes within the penalty area, always lurking in the penalty area, trying to find some space, and very rarely any goals from outside.

Fair one and good point. He didn’t quite score at the same rate as Maja has though did he? I thought he got about 18 goals in the whole season (40 odd games) for Coventry.
20 in 40 I think it was but that was playing for a midtable side as opposed to arguably the best team in the league (only time will tell).

League one is such a poor standard that I don't think you can really judge a player until they make the step up to at least championship level.

Far too many people are getting carried away by maja at this level

You said 'he won't cut it,' which is a far, far bigger and controversial statement than me saying 'he will play for England'.
He is an absolute class act already, his first touch, his awareness and movement to create space in and around the box and his arrow like finishing will guaranteed him a great career. If he was banging them in now because of his pace and power, of course I'd have my doubts he could make the two steps up, but he isn't. His skills are transferable to any level, I hope it's with us.

This^
How many times have we seen a young player do well in the lower leagues using his power and pace then fail to step up as his technique isn't good enough.

It's the exact opposite with Maja the technique is already there.

There's a long list of strikers who lacked pace and power who were successful in the lower leagues but couldn't make the step up aswell mind.

True, but I'm pretty convinced with the right coaching he will make it. You can see from his last two performances that he is expanding his game and taking on board what he is being taught. I just wish his agent would do one.

If you think Vaughan is a better striker than Josh Maja then I suggest you take up watching a different sport because football is clearly not for you.

I don't think he's a better player, I'm just highlighting that for all people go on about Maja's goalscoring, his record isn't actually any better at this level than a player who we all know was absolutely shite in the league above. Purely for this season the Vaughan from 16/17 would probably have done better, he scored just as often but actually has that bit of physicality and would offer more all round. Obviously due to his age and potential you'd rather have Maja, my point is simply that he has a lot to work on and I think some are overestimating how impressive his record is in an absolutely atrocious league

I don't think they are over estimating it. Its his 1st full season playing professional football. Which ever way you look at it, its very good and impressive.

I think it impresses because of the comparitively low number of shots to goals, he must score with roughly every other chance which is what you want, there's loads he can improve on but that knack he has is precious tbh and will serve him well whatever level he plays at, imo.

Great post - nobody really knows how players adapt to the higher standard but in my opinion Maja probably wont cut it. His movement and instinctive finishing isn't enough there are tons of players that have performed well with those attributes at that level but not had the pace and physicality to do it at the top level. At this moment he's slightly less proven than a Matty Fryatt. I cant think of a similar type of player to Maja that is successful at the top level? that said he would be a big blow to lose this season.
Jordan Rhodes might be a decent comparison. He made a couple of interesting transfer decisions to keep developing rather than going for the money.

You could also ask though why isn't he creating more chances for himself ? We rarely have less possession than our opponents, so why is Maja only having one or two chances per game?

If I could like this twice I would, but I can't do have a second unofficial like . . . . Like
