Simple Minds were brilliant at times in the early days - Empires and Dance is an absolutely fantastic album - then they discovered Steve Lilywhite who turned them into U2 mk2Don’t know if they sold out but Stereophonics first couple of releases were decent if hardly world changing but have since become as boring as fuck.
Good shout with SM,stadium rock,cheap U2 impressions.
Musical growth is valid, the trick is to incorporate new ideas into your music, without losing your musical identityIve seen a lot of people argue it the other way though. That they were the sell outs because they`d sold out their thrash roots by trying different stuff. Rather than accepting that throwing a bit of country vibes in like Mama Said, or even a bit of Shadows in with some of the stuff on the black album is just musical growth

You beat me to it.Kings of Leon
I wouldn't say sell out but REM became vastly more commercial.
Saw them on the New Gold Dream tour about 82, glittering prize and all that thought they were brilliant, never liked a song since!Simple Minds were brilliant at times in the early days - Empires and Dance is an absolutely fantastic album - then they discovered Steve Lilywhite who turned them into U2 mk2
agree to a point when went to 'too rye aye ' but went totally uncommercial with ' dont stand me down ', barely sold a copy and no obvious single on album, one cam out but was about 8 minutes long.Dexys

Think I just really love Young Soul Rebels. Didn't love the addition of strings and the gypsy stylings of to rye ayI'm not sure they've ever made a bad album TBH.
Van Morrison, lazy money making albums (not heard the new one though)

Southern Death Cult/ Death Cult/ The Cult was a weird one. The Cult did some good stuff but saw them later on looked and sounded like Status Quo
