When do we start talking about Jos Buttler?

To be fair, unlike with Bairstow (towards the end anyways), I understand why Jos gets picked. 100%.

I just don't fully agree with it. But as I say, I'm delighted with him today, and would love him to go on now and really hammer it and make it beyond question

Thing is he's a match winner in white ball cricket, but has won very few Tests for England
I never have fully agreed with it mate

As has already been said, issue with buttler has always been (at least for me) his keeping ability. Going in at 7 and playing his shots he is ideal, if the top order can actually get a half decent start. Today was brilliant from him but unfortunately his keeping needs drastic work to keep his role in the long term.

This argument has been going since Stewart or Russell back in the day, 70s and early 80s the best actual keeper was selected irrespective of his batting.

it really got trendy when gilchrist came along for a batsman keeper. England love an all rounder in the 7 position and have went with buttler to do this now

With stokes being unavailable, I think they will bring in another batsman

Popped over to Bexley Cricket Club this evening and seen the Bexley keeper take two more stumpings in 5 overs than Buttler has taken in his Test career 😶

Gilchrist - 37
Healy - 29
McCullum - 11
Dhoni - 38
Prior - 13
Dowrich - 5
Bairstow - 13
De Kock - 11
Buttler - 0

I’m not one for stats

So yeah not many stumpings in test cricket then, have not checked the stats but imagine McCullum and De Kock have played plenty of tests yet just 11.

Prior played loads of tests imagine beside Swann yet still only 13.

Would be interesting to know how many stumpings full stop in test matches in England on normally seamer friendly wickets.

De Kock has played 47. I believe this is Buttlers 47th Test now...

I’ve yet to find a keeper with none
Chris Read - 6 (in only 15 tests)
Haddin - 8
Ridley Jacobs - 12
Nevill - 2 (in 17)

can someone suggest keepers?

I think it’s unfair to judge a keeper on stumpings in this current era, when they have two fast bowlers who have took more wickets than any other England bowlers in history!! therefore taking the bulk of the wickets

And sub standard international spinners in England

Unless we expecting stumpings of Broad and Anderson
