100%.Can we all just agree on one thing?
the last couple of weeks have been excellent with the bat, and we hope he kicks on and does it more consistently.
Although obviously we're "seething" when he does well

Of course that's how averages workYou did say though that his average was still in its 20s.

Ah fair enoughSince then he's failed in the Windies, failed in NZ, failed in The Ashes, failed in SA. Now we're up to 40 tests and his average is still in the 20s
I was doing it in timeline, if that wasn't clear. And it was.
Now we're up to 46 tests and it's 32-33(?)
Jesus wept are these idiots still at it???
just absolutely embarassing
You are
constantly gloating
Its pathetic
This is exactly what me, you and Chunks have said all along.
The three of us were almost falling over ourselves with praise when he's done well ffs
you calledfor him to be dropped the game after one of our best ever chases![]()

Please lads don't respond.

I don't think the criticism he got was out of order at all. He had been in very poor form in Test cricket since the India series in 2018, and was starting to cost more runs than he was scoring. His place was under scrutiny, he himself admitted that.
And I think a lot of the "comical" comments were more aimed at the likes of Johnson and latterly that Salem geezer, who bizarrely seem to take any criticism of Buttler - however valid - as a personal affront. I honestly think Salem cries to his mother every time Jos gets any mild criticism!
That said, he has performed admirably in this series, and has earned the right to keep his place. I have my serious doubts about how he'll fare in the subcontinent, but he's just about earned the right to play down there.
Think it's been more tongue in cheek humour than us actually thinking he's a joke figure. I can't speak fully for the others but I've always considered him an outstanding white ball talent that simply hadn't adapted to test cricket, rather than some T20 slogger who should never play the longer format. I'm pleased he's starting to prove me wrong as he's good to watch and seems a really nice lad.
Won't deny that some comments made will have been gentle provocation for amusement purposes.
WTF?!
Terrible post, you know nothing about cricket
Insane you like
Log off
It’s pretty disgraceful the way some posters have hammered him, good to see he’s made complete fools of them
you can start all this patronizing stuff but the reality is every time he getw out for a low score or makes a slight error the same idiots log on and start gloating

He's more than earned his ticket with the bat, but his keeping still leaves some work to be desired, especially on spinning pitches, which is why I say "just about". If Pope, for example, is injured for the tour, based on this form I'd have no issue at all with him playing as a batter, but I'm still unsure about him being WK over there (although I'm obviously aware he will be). Some fair points there mate, apart from your last one ' he has just about earned the right to play down there'
I find that quite wide of the mark, he has just scored 150, and was brilliant in the previous test winning the game.
It's totally fair to say before this series and at the point you started this thread his place was rightly under scrutiny.
Buts it's not fair to say he has just about earned the right to play, when he has scored the most runs in the team this summer, he is very much earned the right to play down there for performing excellent when the pressure was on him!

That's what I meant by just about, not as a dig; just that I don't think he'll cope behind the sticks, but equally his form during this series means it'd be very, very harsh to drop him.
Can we just keep this thread for slagging off Jos please.Gough out

Can we just keep this thread for slagging off Jos please.
There’s a separate thread if you want to discuss the match.
As I say, he's more than earned his place in the batting line, but I don't think he has behind the stumps.I do think taking everything into account, he has now more than earned his place, you can't drop your top run scorer in a summer.
And while his place been questioned in the past, was absolutely fair enough, his performances in this series should mean this should not even be a debate no more, and this thread should end.
At least till he misses a stumping in his next test! and no doubt it will bumped and we will be off again!
Buts it's not fair to say he has just about earned the right to play, when he has scored the most runs in the team this summer, he is very much earned the right to play down there for performing excellent when the pressure was on him!
Interestingly, Ben Foakes massively credits Bruce French with helping him to kick on and become as good as he is. So maybe he just doesn't have much to work with...Butler's handling standing up to the wicket is in need of improvement -not surprising, it's a very specialist skill. Any criticism should be directed towards the W/k coach -currently Bruce French. He's the one specifically employed to bring the improvement.
You keep saying that chief, but as I alluded to last time....... Zak Crawley beat him. By one.
