hello Fella’s.

I’ll be coming up next weekend for the match just wondering where’s a decent place for a few drinks before and after. Must admit this was the first fixture I looked for when the fixtures came out with you being the biggest side with the biggest stadium. Shame it’s 10 days before Christmas. Are away fans still housed right up the top because I read something that you was closing the top tier but not sure.

We’ve sold over 1,000 tickets already and should be knocking on 2,000 come next Saturday which isn’t a bad following with us being bottom 4. I predict a 3-1 wins for you guys

All the best
2000 would be a good effort. That's a long trip..
Sensible away fans welcome anywhere unless they are Mags.
Great view from where you will be and you will think you're the loudest away fans in history. You will also think that we are as silent as a mouse, the sound from the main bowl doesn't make it up where you are. Have a good visit bar the result obviously.

You mean you won't sing "Goodnight Irene" with them?

I always took it as Goodnight Irene but clearly it was Good night Irene
Goodnight sweetheart, see you in the morning,

Im away walking through a brick wall out the back

Joking aside back in the 70s when Nancy ran the Havelock(hogans) if you even appeared a little drunk you were politely asked to leave with the message that you would be welcome back the following day
Aye its all tongue in cheek, had many a good time in Hogans on a lunchtime from work or after s half shift,

Funny place Hogans back then . Rammed with some of the hardest blokes on earth yet all of them scared of Nancy . Was she a school teacher or was that her sister ? Traditionally a Catholic pub but with no bigotry at all .

Indeed a former headmistress I believe at a catholic school but I never noticed any strong feeling towards my self or Madras all ex pupils from Diamond hall and Simpson streed .But was amusing to see some hard knock being lectured by Nancy

Bit of a conversation I overheard whist in there with my mate.
1st piss heed "Our boyz gettin a start"
2nd piss heed "wherat"
1st piss heed "Swan Hunters"
2nd piss heed "wherzat"
1st piss heed "Fuck nars"

I'm not suggesting that Suddickers are at all parochial .

Drink in the city centre and head across the bridge to the stadium around 2.30. The walk across the bridge to the stadium is one of the highlights of the match day "experience" for visiting fans. There are not many grounds in England where all fans can walk to the ground and the atmosphere builds like that any more.

The problem is the immediate area in town next to the bridge isn't great for drinking. If we had the pubs from green terrace to high street west closer to the bridge then Sunderland would be one of the best best away experiences in the country and visiting fans would have a massively different opinion of the city in general.

Sunniside is ideal for drinking and about 1-2 minutes from the bridge.
