After watching today’s game between Coventry and Man U I can’t but wonder what exactly is the point of var and its actual use. Yes I get goal line technology where you can see a ball clearly over or not over the line for goal decisions, and when there are pena;ty claims be it handball in which is it a case of ball to hand or hand to ball. Did a player dive or was he fouled,,,was it in or outside of the penalty box etc etc etc,,,but where offside is concerned its a case of a certain part of your body being offside or not and that could literally be a toe as in the case today. I genuinely believe after seeing the decision given by var that it needs looking into. Yes there is a case for offside just being offside, but when the margins at inches or in this case probably a centimetre at best, you have to ask the question of who gains the advantage. That ball clipped over the top was always going to have the Coventry player getting on the end of it, so I would say in such cases where the margin is so small then why don’t they place the attacker in the same position on the line as the defender and ask if an advantage would favour the attacker and of it does then he is onside. It wouldn’t take long to make that call I don’t think.
