Travelling abroad again

It seems you’ve purposely ignored me say on numerous times I meant people in a broader sense, but aye ignore that.

I’ll say it again. People (Society as a whole) will go back to doing exactly what we currently are which is damaging the planet.

I’ve never specifically asked you or the average Brit to do anything differently. However, majority of us (including myself) all eat plenty of meat, we all use plastic etc. As with coronavirus, every single person has a part to play in reducing the current harm we’re doing to the planet, do you not agree?

We do, however the bulk of the harm is done by things which the ordinary citizen has little or no control over.

Due to go to Disneyland in Paris for a weekend in early June - obviously that’s down the pan.

It’ll likely have to be postponed till June 2021. Not the worst thing in the world but it was all paid for back in December.

I cba going through the refund process, would rather they just reschedule it for summer 2021. No chance amusement parks will be open before 2021 imo.

My missus (no) works for a travel company that specialise in trips to Disneyland Paris - she's spent the last month or so re-booking people with holidays booked for April/May/June this year. Disney are pretty good at re-scheduling the holidays - in many cases at little or no cost to the customer. Give your travel agent a ring and they'll sort it for you.

I reckon major European destinations will be open by early June, but in very restricted manners - numbers limits in attractions, one way systems, eateries with half the usual tables etc. The venues need it, the airlines need it, the government needs it. But theme parks and other 'crowded' venues - more likely August.

It's not about a return to reality, that will be late ion the year at the earliest, but life goes on and we will come out to some extent almost with the speed we went in. This is all of course if the current drop in figures isn't a false dawn. No one is really easing off yet, these headlines today about other European cuntres are almost all putting back things that were never taken away here!

Slightly off topic but realistically how long can all these planes sit parked up on runways before maintenance starts to become a major issue?
A neighbour of mine works in maintenance for Easyjet at Luton, virtually all of them are working virtually full time, albeit on more sociable hours than usual.

Have flights booked for July and they are still going. Problem is that the passports expire in June and the Passport Office are not issuing renewal passports apart from in an emergency at present. Any suggestions?

Contact the Passport Office and ask them for their advice. They'll have guidelines that cover these type of scenarios.

Jet2 operating all holidays again from 1st July
Lets fly to somewhere with no facilities open, quarantine for 14 days on arrival and then again in the UK. Sounds like a great holiday
At least it will save them the hassle and cost of refunds though. Can you imagine anybody will be daft enough to be flying this summer

I suppose it depends if some countries come up with reciprocal agreements regarding quarantine - Aren't France, Spain and Portugal (possibly) considering setting up 'air bridges' to enable tourism to start again?

I agree it will be sh!te if there's nothing open.

My thoughts re the quarantine are that it should have been imposed at the beginning of the lock down. Thousands were allowed to arrive here from China, Spain Italy etc with no checks.
Now, if you go to Greece or say, Croatia where there is hardly any virus, you have to quarantine when you get back, it’s silly.
Like the boss of Ryan Air said thousands land at an airport then make their way to wherever via tube, train, bus etc before they even start the quarantine.
I fear this half baked belated move by the Government will lead to many thousands of job losses.

That travel journo Simon Calder was on tele last night encouraging folk to get booked up. Was asked about people who have a holiday booked & balance due, regarding whether to cancel or not. Said pay up as either you'll get a refund or have a great holiday & they were the only 2 possibilities.

Which of course is a crock of shit, cos if social distancing is still in place, bars & restaurants being either shut or massively restricted plus all the quarentine stuff then it ain't going to be a great holiday. It'll be shite.

I have switched summer holiday to next year already but 4 night break to Krakow is in September. Likely they will be flying but don't fancy having to social distance in Auschwitz and other tourist places.

By flying they are reducing the risk of refunds being payable

Depends if bars and restaurants are important to you (they are for me).

I know of one extended family who hire a large villa each year and hardly ever leave it unless it's to go to the supermarket to stock up on supplies.

They essentially sit around their private pool and gardens all day and night, and eat and drink what they've bought.

It's not for me, but for them, it's heaven.

We were supposed to be flying out to Portugal next Thursday - we've rearranged the accommodation for June next year and are now waiting for our refund from Easyjet.

If it's possible, and if social distancing is relaxed or no longer needed, we'll try to get away in October. Two big 'ifs' at the moment though.
