Couldnt that be manipulated by a losing team though. Extending injury time to allow a late equaliser?I always say they should change the rule so that if the ref deems you're time wasting, he adds on three times the amount of time. Time waste for 5 minutes and he's adding 15 minutes on at the end. If actually enforced it would stop it immediately. You'd still get people pretending to be injured like but it would be a start. And agree, if you're time wasting at a throw the opposition should get possession.
The term "gamesmanship" is a rank euphemism for outright cheating.I’m getting increasingly frustrated at the “gamesmanship” or to use its real word cheating bastard soft as shite footballers ruining a match. It happens a lot at our level but also at top level.
The amount of players going down faking injury to waste time, rolling back onto the pitch when faking injury off it (couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday) and the time wasting from goal keepers for kicks (don’t get me started on their keeper yesterday moaning cos one of ours was stood close to him ffs), throw ins time wasting etc.
It ruins flow of game, is a turn off for punters and the added injury time never reflects anything like the time that should be added on.
Why don’t the powers that be change the rules?
For example, if the ref stops play he stops the clock and as a result we play until 45 eschWe then get proper injury time not bullshit made up numbers.
If someone wastes time on a throw in like they are it is an immediate yellow and the throw goes to the other team. The ref did yellow once for a throw time wasting yesterday but all it did was waste more time. Giving the throw the other way would solve and stop it. Say hey have 15 seconds to take the throw.
Also everyone now stands on or in front of or keeps hold of the ball or walks off with it for a free kick against them. That should be an immediate yellow and kick moved forwards 10 yards.
Finally change rule so only the captain is allowed to approach the ref. Anyone else is instant red.
We could learn a lot from rugby I think.
I am getting frustrated to the point of losing interest as it’s no longer a spectacle but an embarrassment.
Isn't the idea that matches are only 60 mins if you stop the clock when it goes out? Being trialled by FIFA somewhere in the world? Or have I made this up?If the clock stopped every time play does we’d still be there at 6pm. The place would be empty
I get more annoyed by the opposition player standing in front of the ball to stop a free kick being taken quickly. If we hit the ball against them, do they get booked or is it unsportsmanlike from us?
Not if it was at the referees discretion, so if the ref thinks a team are deliberately time wasting to get more time they don't add it onCouldnt that be manipulated by a losing team though. Extending injury time to allow a late equaliser?

I've been an advocate of this for years. OPTA stats say that on average the ball is in play for approx 56 mins. So just have 2 halves of 30 mins and have an official time keeper, game stops, so does the clock.
"Gamesmanship" contender of the season yesterday...That Charlton player who was (feigning ) injury just off the pitch after being tackled..then rolled back into play still pretending to be hurt, wasting more time...Like watching a Gillingham/Wycombe match...
Very poor but I’d rather get the 3 pointsYes, but it is still a poor spectacle
The FA aren’t going to change because we complain we need to up the tempo etc. Don’t care what people say we need to deal with it, teams have went to Stamford Bridge etc for years and done this; they get through itWe do but it also needs to be dealt with by the fa etc, it's not football its an exploitation of the rules which allows footballing talent to be minimised and maximises results from unsportsmanlike behaviour.
It won’t stop that but having 30 min halves and stopping the clock when the ball is out of play will stop things like passing the ball between 3 players before a throw gets taken. That still wouldn't stop keepers waiting to pick the ball up, picking it up last second
Agree if they stop the clock at stoppages then game should be shorter in recorded time (as you say be longer in actual play).I totally agree in principle, but we need to be careful what we wish for and not have every throw-in taking 15 seconds by a winning side. It should be in the refs judgement (unfortunately). Swicth the throw for stealing excessive space or repeatedly taking too long. I'm come round to the idea that games be 60 minutes of play - hard to believe that would be a significant increase but there was a thread about a game with 39 minutes of play.
I’m not saying it cos we got beat though, I’m saying it as it ruins what is after all part of the entertainment industry. I may be too old mate as as a kid I can just imagine the reaction from the other players (including team mates) if anyone did what we see today. We need to find a way to deal with this and to stop moaning, if we were 1-0 up at Old Trafford we’d be doing the same
Which is the obvious flaw in this new ruling.Be a canny tactic if you were drawing and needed more time to get a winner.
He cant even get it right when its blatant and echoed by 30’000 home fans. Not if it was at the referees discretion, so if the ref thinks a team are deliberately time wasting to get more time they don't add it on
Absolutely and I am surprised that is the case with all of our planning. The Bolton game we were completely under the cosh but I felt we got on with the game far too quickly. It has become a sport within a sport now and all other teams are much better at it than we are.
Whatever rule change is introduced, timekeeping should be taken away from the refI’m getting increasingly frustrated at the “gamesmanship” or to use its real word cheating bastard soft as shite footballers ruining a match. It happens a lot at our level but also at top level.

And if it was dealt with the way it should be then it wouldn't be an issue. No matter who is one up.We need to find a way to deal with this and to stop moaning, if we were 1-0 up at Old Trafford we’d be doing the same
