The Hundred 2023

Not many at this mornings game.

This v the Women's World Cup Final.

Great scheduling by the ECB.
Filled up nicely as the game went on. I don’t necessarily care for the competition but we were having a few days away ticking off some grounds we hadn’t visited so a trip here fit in. Already bored of the patronising nature of it and the cringey nature of the DJ and presenting but it’s cricket to watch for us at the end of the day. Hopefully it’s shelved after this year.

.
After the crushing disappointment of the football. Now its time to see who knocks the Rockets out of the top 3 😐

No. But it seems The Hundred has provided an excuse for people to use.

There’s no reasoning with that like.
Firstly mate @The Rey has said several times he prefers and quote ‘proper cricket over Bazball’ most of them on the ashes threads during the first test

So thats ONE person. You suggested several. Anymore?

it’s not about winning arguments for me never has been it’s been allowed to express your genuine views on a message board it’s not something I would make up.

You make shit up all the time in order to win arguments

You also deny reality.
However there is no doubt in my mind I am genuinely passionate in mine, which is to try and increase participation at ground and club level which I think is needed for the longevity of the game.

So if you’re passionate at trying to increase participation - what are you actively doing in order to assist this?
I genuinely believe a short format tournament in the school holidays in a kind of English Premier League which is fast paced, colorful, where each game is an event in itself and on telly every night and spread more geographically, during that period has a hell of a lot more chance of achieving that objective than county championship games during the period.

You’re literally describing the T20 Blast there.

For the record, I’ve never seen ANYONE on here pushing this agenda that ‘The County Championship’ is the only way to grow the game. Not a single person. Yet you, @PeteFTM and @Fleagle seem to have this bizarre default of trying to directly compare the 16.4 with the CC. Why is that? Is it because you know you can’t win a debate when you compare apples to apples?

A line can’t be drawn under this whilst 16.4 cultists like you continue to deny reality. It’s really that simple.

Yeah we’re all swimming against the tide. I’m not involved in football having been utterly crap at it even when I didn’t weigh three stone too much and have no knees. But even though that is supposed to be booming, most of the pitches in my old home town, that in my youth would be full of kids games every Saturday morning and men’s every Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are barely used today. Except as dog toilets. Or housing.

I was asked a specific question on NE cricketers with test caps and I wouldn’t know where to start the research to answer it. So I’ll duck it not through lack of cohones but through lack of knowledge. While accepting that the gut feel is fewer back then.

That said, the fact you mention Stokes is telling. He’s a kiwi who grew up in Cumberland, not a North Easterner. He wasn’t lost to cricket because Cumberland didn’t play first class. Doesn’t even in fact have its own single county board anymore. England have had plenty of other players born in what we used to call Minor Counties including some if their greatest. So even that is not black and white.

You didn’t quote me but I guess you’re replying to me.

I’m fully aware of Stokes’ background, but this is quite an old argument which we’ve done before - you could obviously point to the Northumberland lads such as Harmison and Wood and make the same argument you are regarding Cumberland - but the crux of the issue is that Durham becoming a first class county opened up a huge catchment area to enable lads from North of the old rose houses of Lancaster and York to have the opportunity to play First Class cricket.

Pre-1992 there wasn’t many. Colin Milburn and Peter Willey aside.

Since 1992? Loads. More or less tenfold. It is not a coincidence. Nor is it coincidence that since the 2005 Ashes Series only Yorkshire amongst the 18 counties have produced more Test cricketers for England than Durham.

That’s what’s at stake in a world where county cricket is allowed (or forced) to go to ruin. Franchises done produce or nurture talent. If counties die, so will the game of cricket at an elite level itself.

There's a Durham game on and not once have you posted in that but alot on here, how come?

Dipped in and out of this thread, do we know if the BBC want to show the blast games?

Yes they do, even the BBC themselves confirmed at the time that when the ECB sold it to them they thought they were getting the Blast.

The ECB tried to push the narrative that the BBC didn’t want it, but they lied and got found out.

I’m definitely team hundred. (Seen the split on here)

Working from home full time, so catch the early game during the week and love the later game.

I don’t know enough of the county players in the blast- so struggle to enjoy it as much. I know pretty much every player in the hundred as it’s genuinely the best players from each team in the blast?

That said I’m a million miles away from the politics of it all tbh. Even when I lived at home in the NE I’d never go and watch Durham.

So selfishly the hundred works perfectly for me and I’m always entertained.

I think we need a separate thread for people watching the games and one for people with sand in their vaginas

Barely anyone would comment. Just look back through the thread, the only people actually commenting regularly on the product are the SpamBot, you and VoFP.

No one cares. It’s a busted flush.

Nope, not even close
Are you not there? You’re killing domestic cricket

No, the game is in Birmingham and I’ve been to work so I couldn’t get there in time - I’ll use my hard earned wages to go to Durham’s last two home games and I’ll be trying my best to get to Worcester for their last away game.

How many 16.4 games you been to? Ever?

How many games of cricket have you been to this season Spamdog? If you’ve been to more than 0 I’ll even give you a sympathy like.

I always know when someone’s full of shit when they desperately come up with long-winded excuses. It’s like when people come up with elaborate stories as to why they can’t come in to work

A bit better quality than the Blast as there’s far more internationals playing

Long winded excuses? This from a bloke that tries to suggest that making the 50 over cup into a reserve team competition won’t impact attendances at all.

You’re a WUM mate, it’s quite obvious from your posting style - atleast with the SpamBot we know they’re being employed to spam the board, with you, you’re actively spending your own time posting shit for a reaction. You’ve got to be a special type of loner/saddo to want to do that.

I’ll ask you again, how many 16.4 games have you been to this year?
