The Hundred 2023

Bit of a fight back from the Spirit to be fair to them, game is still somewhat on.

Bairstow could destroy their score quickly if he’s up for it.

He is. Everything he describes can happen with the county version of T20. Absolutely everything. What’s more, it’s all things that the county cricket supporters have said for years and years and years as a way to improve the Blast.

Now you’re describing the 16.4.

You can’t compare the Blast to any other franchise competition from around the world because unfortunately the Blast is no longer getting the ECB’s ‘best effort’.

If the ECB devalue it, don’t be surprised if it isn’t as ‘special’ as the IPL or other country franchise tournaments.

I’ve never met a single person who is saying it is fine as it is. As for the Blast being a ‘pack of shite’ again, blame the ECB. But it’s still getting better attendances than the 16.4 in terms of aggregate - so what does that tell you??

Nah, you didn’t, you just did what you always do - completely ignore anything ever puts to you.

I’ll ask again, what are you actively doing to improve cricket participation??
I just thought naively we could draw a line under it and respect where each other is coming from and come to the conclusion after years of debating the same subject neither of us is going to change their passionate fundamental views on the subject, but looks like I was wrong.

I see there was a fantastic game for Durham hope you and all really enjoyed it, always great when a game goes down to the wire especially when your team comes out on top.

Hope all goes well for your team for the rest of the season good luck
Hard to be worse than last season (men’s)

Still need to do it with the bat, but it looks like a good morale win and helps start to create a gap up the top finally

Good for the Originals @Voice of fair play
Yeah after the two bets I had could not have gone more smoothly, still time for it to go tits up mate as it tends to do with my bets :D

Not by the criterion you should set, which is the one that matters if you’re to argue the cricket operation is profitable. It makes a marginal cost surplus. It doesn’t cover a proportion of its share of the fixed costs of the cricketing operation and then some to leave a profit.

Blast attendances are 60-70% of total for most counties. If gate receipts and revenue for those games and an appropriate share of commercial don’t cover 60-70% of operating costs, and in particular wages, and they don’t by a long chalk (except just about, pre-Covid, for Surrey) as the openly published annual accounts of the counties make clear, then there’s no profit in the real sense. Just a smaller loss than the Championship.
Why? That's not the model. Cricket is based on a system where everything funnels up to the national side, and the clubs that provide the infrastructure and the players which allow the national side to exist get the cash redistributed.

That's the thing about a sport that takes days to play and must be played during the daytime, only a fraction of the population can watch it regularly.

Putting receipts from a stand alone competition up against the fixed costs of having a cricket ground isn't a fair comparison. If Blast revenue are 60-70% of a counties' income, it certainly doesn't use the facilities for 60-70% of the time

The Blast provided a decent chunk of income for the counties, but they are not required to be self financing without the ECB’s support.

You know what else the Blast hasn't done? Sucked £50m out of the sport whilst taking the game away from more than half the country in the height of summer.

What a way to finish the game. Big mistake bringing on Mitchell to bowl.

Spirit now look out of the competition after looking strong recently, Welsh Fire now right back in the mix after looking poor. Funny old game.

Haway man, you can't put Tammy in the middle of 3 tallish guys
She’s good on coms like. Her and Morgan a good partnership.

Can’t stand Kate Cross, she comes out with utter garbage. “A single is as good as a dot at this stage” when it was about 30 needed of 16 was a particularly stupid comment.

So selfishly the hundred works perfectly for me and I’m always entertained.

No need to justify it, if you enjoy it don’t let what others think spoil it for you.

I live in Wiltshire, we have a minor county cricket club. So absolutely no affiliation to any T20 sides, ive always watched England, and the blast as a neutral and view the hundred as the same thing, though ive randomly ended up following the Rockets.

Crucial game for the Rockets tonight. A big win would mean the top 3 are more or less set for the weekend. A loss or draw and it’s still wide open.

I know, gutted that we’re nearing the end but it’s also getting exciting now we’re near the finish
I do think would be slightly better if had two more teams one from South West and one from North East to cover your Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, and for your Durham, Sunderland Newcastle areas etc and make it 10 teams.

Which would be a bigger spread geographically, and extend the competition, and extend the enjoyment and entertainment this years tournament has undoubtedly produced, but that would need change and flexibility in other areas to allow that.

And when Strauss suggested compromise it was meet with resistance so will be hard to do.

If they did that and changed it back to 20 overs I would be a happy man, only two changes I would make.
