The Hundred 2023

The Best v The Best.

That can only happen with money. Lots of it which the ECB don't have. They did have a fair amount of money but blew it all on this rubbish.

Franchising it properly is the only way with Indian & Saudi money and a 5 overseas players rule. Won't happen though. Who wants to buy this? It is no better than T20 and we missed that boat to join in long ago. We seemed more interested in a crooked American financer. You couldn't make it up.

Will we ever see The Best v The Best? If you're a certain age we already did. It was the domestic cricket era of the 70s and 80s when top class overseas stars played in the county championship. And the one day competitions.

It’s cos the US league (and another I think?) have been created/ expanded to cover the same time slot.

The ECB needs to give up on the big names thing, it’s not going to happen.
Caribbean league has been established for years

the FTECB decided to down grade the Ashes to give the 100 all of August

despite the American and Caribbean clearly intending that time to play

the result is the mediocrity we are observing

The CPL starts next week.

Last month was inaugural Major League cricket season played solely in Texas. Most of the teams were IPL franchise teams.

You'd imagine players likely to just hop over to Caribbean for a holiday between the tournaments instead of playing in England.

If they liked the format more would entertain it. Top class players aren't interested and whilst finances will dictate, the format of the game will also be an issue. Basically it's shit and unappealing.
We will have to agree to disagree mate, while I agree it’s disappointing the quality low.

I personally think that quality players not playing has nothing to do with the format and everything to do with the money

Its the fact its made up franchise teams, thats the problem, the amount of balls makes no difference like.

English sport is different, it has more history than anywhere else, people are attached to teams in their areas.

its money. no more like. its their job, they are guns for hire, who and what they are playing they dont care about like, just what they get paid

If you were a top player looking at franchise cricket around the world the big deals are all at T20 level

this tournament may have seemed a good idea on paper in an executive meeting but right from the start , they alienated the cricket fan base by stating their views were not to be listened to

there were votes of 95% who were against it but the FTECB knew better and brought it in anyway

now they are spiteing their own faces and cannot bring themselves to pull the plug

never mind they will be wanting the 95% who told them it wouldn’t work , to all return when sense has prevailed and all the counties are allowed to participate in “spreading the game “
.

an alert from Cricinfo

the welsh fire are losing shaheen shah afridi and Harris Rauf to be replaced by Ferguson and Henry from New Zealand

decent replacements

Couldn’t put it better myself

I think if the teams felt like extensions of what already existed then I don’t think there would be as much push back from regular Cricket fans. It’s the way they try to make it seem as though domestic Cricket didn’t exist before The Hundred that irks me the most, especially when it’s not really any better that what we already had.

100%

If they is like a northern team which was exclusively a mix of Durham and Yorkshire players there’s a small chance I’d have took an interest

But as you say the total distain they showed.

15 man rosters.

8 local picks, pre-announced. Example: London Spirit picking solely from Middlesex and Essex.

4 supplementary picks selected via a draft. Would also have a ‘1 pick rule’ where if you picked a player, you can’t pick anymore from that County.

3 overseas picks, also selected via the draft

England contracted players are allocated to their relevant side, based off their County and don’t count towards the roster cap.

Aye but there’s no way the ECB were going to have the superchargers having Stokes, Wood, Root, Bairstow and Brook, and Welsh fire have no one

I mean that sounds so much better and is just surely common sense you’d think?
No but we could never compete financially against other franchise which was why it was a stupid project from the beginning.

Aye. Although my own view is that people in this country are not remotely interested in if pollard or narine play for their teams

They want to see local stars

The big bash is a mess and shite, but when steve smith played 5 games for the first time in years last year they almost sold out

Nobody cares about seeing these so called t20 franchise stars, they wanna see the best English players
