I’m a fly angler so I am biased.Anyone been to aldin grange lakes or Langley dam? The boy is doing this trout masters thing, he’s doing well and got a few badges but wants to do the other fisheries in our area. He’s mainly doing fly now but would probably be convinced to go back to bait if fly wasn’t working.
Have you had salmon on the fly jeffers?I’m a fly angler so I am biased.
I respect the coarse guys, but for me, fly is the way.
salmon
sea trout
brownies
rainbows
oops and the lady grayling
which I have had on one occasion only.
Good luck to your boy and let’s hope he is a future fly fishing star.
I haven’t mate just trout and grayling.Have you had salmon on the fly jeffers?
I used to think that about the boats. It’s no different to any other fishing apart from you can change marks easier. You don’t always get fish either Jeff believe me. Small tides, big tides, fast drifts, water colour, wrong baits, electronic break downs, googans etc etc all contributing factors to a bad session.I find boat fishing a bit dull. Yes you get fish but it’s just winding really.
I like casting In both sea and fly fishing. Nothing like seeing a 6 oz lead going flying out to sea. Even better if it’s still connected to your line at the end of it.
Snap offs - pah!
My mates boat has top notch Lawrance gear and I cannot recall blanking.I used to think that about the boats. It’s no different to any other fishing apart from you can change marks easier. What is nice though is you can have a great day boating even if you blank. Gone are the days of sitting on ryhope cliffs bored out my skull for 5/6 hours for nowt.
That’s the thing though. People who don’t own a boat don’t blank. Because they go out in the height of the season when the fishing is easy. If you do it as a hobby all year around things get a bit more difficult. My mates boat has top notch Lawrance gear and I cannot recall blanking.
If we go over a wreck and there are no fish there we move on. His gear is full colour and intelligent.
I have spent god knows how many hours on rock marks all over the north east coast blanking.
Drowning worms we call it.
