Exactly what I did, I think I still have some around the house somewhere. We made our own
Length of chrome bathroom tube cut to length then bashed shut one end
Fill with molten lead. Drill a hole in bottom for split ring and geet big treble hook. Repeat at the top and then hit the body with a planishing hammer for a bit effect.
That reminds me of one time fishing out of Eyemouth and we all had black bin liners full of cod. One lad was passing his bag of cod up out of the boat to his mate, the bottom of the bag split and all his cod fell out and sank instantly because they had all been gutted.Aye,average fish was 5lb so there were a lot of full houses. It was carnage, horrible to think back
It was great fun boiling a pan of lead on my mates cooker.Exactly what I did, I think I still have some around the house somewhere.
Do people cheat? I have never been a match angler but it must be easy if the boundaries are big. One person enter and three fish as a team for example?Big shore comp next weekend....run by Newbiggin SAC with a bit of help from Amble SAC.
£500 heaviest cod
£500 heaviest flatty
£200 heaviest coalie
It's a not-for-profit match, so the more entries the more the payout. £12 to enter.
Can't remember any more details.
It probably goes on mate, but it would be difficult in a big competition with a few hundred entrants. Everybody will keep an eye on what's going on.Do people cheat? I have never been a match angler but it must be easy if the boundaries are big. One person enter and three fish as a team for example?
I would imagine you might get a clip if you got caught anarl. It probably goes on mate, but it would be difficult in a big competition with a few hundred entrants. Everybody will keep an eye on what's going on.
I saw it happen in one of the only trout competitions I fished,Do people cheat? I have never been a match angler but it must be easy if the boundaries are big. One person enter and three fish as a team for example?
Solicitors were called in a few year ago at the shields open, a jock came down and weighed a dubious fish in to win. He was asked where he caught it and the people who fished there didn’t even see him on the mark. They didn’t pay him out at first but ended up having too after a court battle.I would imagine you might get a clip if you got caught anarl.
Not that Ive heard but some big ones out on the boats. From tomorrow we have 3 days of settled weather which might bring them in.Any macky on the pier yet?

I wonder if anyone has shoved some lead inside a fish to add a little bit of weight?Wasn't there once a bloke weighing in a big flounder in a competion in Sunderland that he'd caught the previous day up the river. I remember because he was in the same Town End Farm fishing club as me. We used to go fishing up Gourock and he was arguing like fuck that his cod was bigger than mine for the heaviest fish prize even though mine was clearly 2oz heavier. Made no difference in the end because.the last boat to come in had loads of bigger cod.
You ain't going to believe this but me and a mate did when we were still at school, won £10 and split it, got a fiver each and my mate got his pic in the echo,1979'ish.Do people cheat?
I crush the barbs on my hooks when mackerel are aroundAye sorry but we do have a few barbarians in our midst.
We need to do all we can to fish responsibly.
It makes me angry when I see scratters walking off the pier with ASDA carrier bags stuffed full of mackerel.
Most anglers appreciate this but we need to do more like taking discarded line home and not leaving old bags of bait scattered all over.
Used to be downstream of the weir in Chester Riverside Parkanyone on here ever caught any barbel from the wear at fatfield?
