The Fishing Thread

Wow - As a kid I used to buy most of my gear from Bennett’s of Sheffield.
That shop looks huge.
You would be in your element, the firearms section is huge, the ice fishing area is massive, ice fishing season is coming up.

Need to get myself a new Barbel rod next season.
Mind you the Shimano Nexave Barbel rods I would highly recommend.
Landed doubles on these and excellent for Tench and Chub.

Have you every been in a BevMo? It's the alcohol equivalent, a huge store with every kind of well-priced alcohol you could imagine. Those two stores side-by-side would cover a weekly shop.
The odds of me entering a store that sells alcohol is exceedingly slim, I am 110% teetotal, but I did pass a large alcohol store yesterday, I can't remember the name though, I will keep my eye out for one though 👍

Suilven in rh pic . Fished Loch Sionascaiag at the bottom it on a day blike that . Caught any amount of titchy stuff, nowt big . As usual .
Yes, that photo was taken from Cam Loch, a good day will result in 60 to 80 fish to the boat, typical wild Brownies up to 1lb, also has Char and I'm told some really big Trout.

Well I've never heard of them being caught but it has Char and parts of the loch are deep enough.
I got an external view when I passed a few days ago so you can see the size of the store.

Cabela's often have some great offers, I bought a Fly rod Blank from them a few years ago and it's my favourite River rod, also a really nice fly reel that I lost one day after we came off Cam Loch, went back when I discovered I had left it but it was gone.

Not such a big fly section in this one, massive ice fishing section at the moment as the season isn't far away.

I tie my own flies during winter it’s a really relaxing thing to do and you can tie a full spring/summers worth of flies.

There are some great youtube lads who do “how to“ videos

Davie Mcphail is very good. Good video and clear instructions.

Davie Mcphail's videos are brilliant, whenever I want a new pattern his youtube page is now my first point of call, the things I've learnt from him have helped me over the years, I saw a video of his fly tying room yesterday and I thought I had a lot of materials until I saw what he has.
I have a pal who is a pro-tier for Partridge and Semperfli, he showed me all sorts of tricks.

If your an ardent fly tier may I recommend a book called The Feather Thief, a book on the length some tiers go to for the perfect fly, fantastically written, just an incredible book in general.

I will have a look and maybe add it to my Christmas list, I have a couple of hundred fishing and tying books I'm going through George Barron's book "At the end of the line" right now, Stan Headley's books are good too.
It won't be anywhere near as tidy come the end of Winter
