The Fishing Thread

I tend to stick to the flies that give me confidence to catch F fly, buzzers. Hares ear, shipmans and various pulling lures with /without weight. I do find it relaxing with a couple of drinks at night👍

Some of the more complex flies drive me to distraction but I do have a friend who is superb so I also buy off him.

Just joined my local fishing club a couple month ago. Out and about twice a week now.

love it even though I blanked the other day. I have a peg on one of our lakes that I’m determined to catch from!!

Is the local fishing club water just a lake or does it have a river stretch?
What’s in the lake and is it natural or a man made carp pond?
So many questions :)
Superb you are enjoying it mate.
Ticked that box and I pulled it back out - in my left thumb it was right in anarl.

Also did it fly fishing had fly in my fingers and stood on my line as i was moving spots - again right in blood arl owa

That picture in this earlier thread I caught the roots of the willow on the far bank. 10lb breaking strain thus can image the catapult effect when I stupidly pulled the rod tip and should have looked away.
All in slow motion as the ledger weight intact came at me like a bullet and hit me clean on the forehead.
2 lads I know were pissing themselves then turned to concern as a huge egg appeared on my head.
Very, very lucky as hook was intact as well.
Always look away (prat) :)

two are small sized old estate lakes and one is on the same estate made after the old pit shut down.

we also have a stretch on the tyne course fishing but have not tried that yet. Dace roach and chub.

oh and two bigger lakes for carp and pike but that’s not my style really.

estate lakes are for members only which I love as no one can just walk around when I’m fishing. I like to be out the way mate. Hope your well.
One lake has the elusive crucian carp. Carp. Tench. Roach. Bream. All kind of silvers really.

other lake has carp up to 20lb but are bloody hard to catch. Silvers nice perch. Bream. Tench.

Horton has. Some canny stamp of bream. Tench. Silvers. No carp. That’s my favourite at the minute. Caught a small but best tench I’ve ever caught the other day. It was beautiful mate. If you know what I mean in a non fish pervert kind of way. Haha

Great line Trilene I have used it straight through (30lb) for years.

I like Diawa Tournament for lighter distance fishing - for example if you want to work a spinner over a lot of ground.

I use it with my amorphous whisker and can hit the horizon on a good day!!
Used Daiwa Tournament 20lb for mixed ground for years and love it.

Sounds absolutely ideal mate.
Not a massive Carp fisherman and like you prefer to fish remotely or in peace and quiet.
Tench are cracking to catch and always prefer the Waggler float rather than ledger of feeder. The excitement of seeing the bubbles when they start feeding and watching the float dip and get nudged before sinking away is magical.
If not already tried put a feeder on and mix breadcrumb in with casters, hemp and maggot. Start with a size 16 hook, double maggot and 4lb line.
Set the clutch just so it’s enough to give out line without snapping.
3 tennis ball size of groundbait in the same place you will cast.
Give it an hour and those bream and Tench will be bending that tip round.
Tight Lines :)

I usually only fish woodlands down Thirsk, had a couple of 10lb plus last week. Anyone else fish there and what baits?
Yip. Craig is a personal friend. Regarding the fishing, use the fishery pellets maybe soak them to soften them up. Fish the partridge and check in the shop the match results to see what pegs are fishing. Are you fishing the pole.

You not on the braid and fixed spool yet?

Never bothered with it to be honest, although always use it for Bass, Pollack and flatties on the light gear.
