The Fishing Thread

The public comments deserves a thread of its own.
‘eeeee I didn’t know you could catch fish here!’
The classic on Roker pier that stuck in my mind was a lad fishing luncheon meat  over the side telling me I’m casting too far. I caught 2 codling about 2lb each in 10 minutes so he walks over “aaaayyyyyeeeee I’m not after codling like”
I must say Roker pier after dark is like the rocky horror show.
Cheers mate, only time I'll go on, but only when I shouldn't be if you know what I mean .

 I know what ya mean. Some lad once pointed to a star towards seaham and said it was the North Star. I said but that’s south. He replies aye but it moves around later.

Aye, theres some get on there that are bright as coal.

There were 4 of us on one night when we shouldn't have been. This bloke comes on, sorts his gear out and lit his bloody Tilley lamp. He was sharp told to put it out.
I am lucky enough to be in NWDAA so I get to fish waskerley, smiddyshaw and hisehope

waskereley is almost identical to fishing any upland scottish loch, kate mclarens most productive fly if its wets and daddies this time of the year off top, and a muddler is great fun as they start chasing minnows

Any wabbits?

Lovely that though.

rabbits..millions of them

its a grouse moor as well and the heather comes right to the edge on one bank so the bastards lie in wait then fly off when you are about 3 feet away

Didn’t someone have a fall getting around the gates a few year ago or was that tynemouth? The new rules on the gates are stupid mind.

Went to Luce Bay in SW Scotland a couple of weeks ago for Bass off the shore, Pollack and Tope off the boat.

A few Bass about, Pollack were ok but the seals were a pain in the arse. Had one good Tope run that dropped the bait.

Bonus was the weather was fantastic, you could see the swirls in the water as the Bass tacked the plugs.

Were you fishing the MoG competition ? Some cracking bass landed there.
I know what ya mean. The 525 is class. Best of it is you buy one second hand for 60/70 quid then ten year later sell it for 60/70. I’m a century man myself and use the kompressor SS. It’s crazy how anywhere in the country you can spot a decent sea angler and it’s normally the breakaway seatbox with back rest that gives it away. I was heavy into the match angling both sea and fresh water but mainly stick to the boat nowadays.
Until my back went and I had to rein back on the fishing, I used a TT Sport and Akios multipliers loaded with 30lb braid for most of my fishing.
For the really heavy ground around the Doctors House and Craster area I used an Axellerator with a heavy duty f/s reel, loaded with 100lb braid and 80lb shock leader. I could count the times I lost any gear using that set up on one hand.

Like others have said though, the right bait catches fish, not expensive tackle. Most of my cod came on mussel wrapped in squid....the smellier the better !

I was fishing a Comp up the beacons at new biggen, honest I had the best white worm and fresh crab as you can imagine most lads did. Bobby Gascogne was fishing next to me and this young plopped a massive mussel bait out. Wallop fish about 8lb and he just walked off laughing. He wasn’t in the Comp.

That reminds me of something like that happening a few years back. There was a cash match one Friday night based around Amble, with a canny turnout at £10 a head.
One of our lads didn't enter but still decided to fish for a couple of hours anyway.
His first cast got him a 17lb cod.
He would have pissed it and won himself £300.

Come back from the game tonight through the Cotswolds and through Lechlade.
Couple of miles detour to check out a gravel pit I fished as a kid.
Claydon Park Fisheries. Great news still open for day permits. Banks look absolutely green thus sign not many are fishing it.
Prolific Tench water. Will fish it next Spring, 40 miles but some cracking memories and big Tench.

Can I come with you mate? Haha

One thing I will say about most anglers is our ability to talk fishing for 4/5 hours straight with a total stranger and nothing else. No names no ages no ‘where ya froms’ just fishing.
My mate once said you should fish down a local pond and get talking to an angler and visit the first place he mentions and do the same at that venue. Imagine where you would end up.
