The winter fishing season is done here so now it’s slim pickings until the summer.
I might get out for a bit of flattie bashing but we mainly get flounder here and you can’t eat them. We don’t really get much plaice although there is the occasional Turbut.
Then it’s waders on and into the surf on the eternal search for bass on a lure.
I know I would have more success using bait but I really want to get one on a lure.
So it’s constant casting with light braid and lures searching for those elusive silvery slabs.
I’ve still got all my fly gear so I could easily go fly fishing for a few months but I’m so out of practice I’m not sure I can remember what to do.Interesting to hear what you sea anglers get up to so keep posting
Once the 31st March is done that is it for reservoir pike fishing until the 1st October.
Will miss it but then await the 16th June to fish the rivers.
Bizarrely you can fish the canals all year round.
Will be targeting Zander next month as live close to the canal and know where they may be. Lures or small live bait are the best methods.

If you don't mind the travel, try Embleton beach for bass on a lure, and decent turbot (to 5lb) on a running ledgered sand eel or mackerel sliver. Then it’s waders on and into the surf on the eternal search for bass on a lure.

Well done mate. We have not been out for a few weeks but the tackle shops are now pushing new bass lures.Final day of the Pike season.
Signed off with 3. Biggest 14lb 3oz. The others at 14lb and 9lb.
Very thin and long fish, fully spawned out and glad they will now get a rest and ready for Oct 1st to go again.
Have loved every minute and above all have learnt so much for the future.
Never thought I would have used a bait boat, experimented with different rigs and will miss it. All about the June 16th Rivers now.
Might get a few sessions on the canal and catch a few Carp to put a bend in the rod.

Conditions were tough will gale force winds on an open bank.

The weather is warming up ( not that you’d notice mind). The sea is warming up ( really?)
It’s nearly time to get those elusive bass.
You smashed it on pike mate, great season, well done.Back in the UK at the moment so might pop up to Sunderland and mackerel or flattie bash before the salmon season if I get the chance, just for old times sakes.Final day of the Pike season.

Thanks mate, hope I get the chance, back in Canada for September for the Salmon, but I really want to fish for flounder in the river wear at South Hylton this year, like a step back in time.Good luck.
If you get back later in the year let me know.
You are more than welcome for a free fish on the reservoir. I have plenty of spare gear that you can use.

Are you using lures for the bass?Got any favourites?Heading over SW Scotland tomorrow to see if I can get some crab from my old haunts, do a bit of Bass fishing while I'm there. Hopefully hit the Holderness beaches sometime over the weekend or Monday for the Smoothies and Bass.
Ideal for the mackerel, and cheap as chips.

Yeah using lures. I love topwaters, favourites being either the Patchinko or my Yo-zuri popper (which are discontinued now). If the waters coloured, I'll be using softbaitsAre you using lures for the bass?Got any favourites?
