The Fishing Thread

One thing I will say about most anglers is our ability to talk fishing for 4/5 hours straight with a total stranger and nothing else. No names no ages no ‘where ya froms’ just fishing.
My mate once said you should fish down a local pond and get talking to an angler and visit the first place he mentions and do the same at that venue. Imagine where you would end up.
Another thing about fishermen- virtually everyone I have come across is happy to share their expertise about bait, rigs, casting, etc

The only thing people don’t share is locations as easily.

The location thing is more bass anglers I find probably due to low numbers up here especially Or new anglers who think they found a ‘secret mark’ and struggle.
I would tell anyone anywhere as I have faith in my abilities.

I remember years ago someone telling me about a secret bass spot

I interrupted them and said “it’s not the hot pipe is it”

They were astounded as they thought they had discovered this new spot - that people had been fishing for years for bass.

I’ve fished it but the bass obviously all saw me coming and legged it. As usual.

In the match world there very little goes unnoticed even in roving matches where the boundaries are the a full coast line. 😂 @tonyfromalnwick will know all about this.

I don't know about all the clubs, but Amble SAC have roving marshalls out and about on Open day. The publicity given to anybody caught cheating really makes it something anybody would think twice about trying it on.
Another thing to remember is that most of the roving Opens are fished over a few miles of coastline, and the number of anglers involved makes it very difficult to find a decent mark to fish alone. There's nearly always somebody nearby, and if anyone saw what they considered to be cheating, the marshalls are always just a phone call away.

Sadly, with the money involved these days, there will always be the odd one who thinks he/her can cheat and get away with it.

Didn’t tell anyone the bait I was using for Barbel for a few seasons it was deadly.
Most people were using pellet and I went with paste (Boilies).
Put a fair few in close season and the Chub and Barbel absolutely loved them.
Smelt like marmite, a yeast flavouring with a slight fish flavour.
Fed pellet over the top and hid the bag of bait :)

Yeah like shoving a small plunder in a fish to get a few extra ounces

sneaky!!

As if anyone would share their favourite marks! I will however share the fact that I recently switched to Berkley Trilene (from some Daiwa rubbish) and it's like night and day. Really strong line with a noticeably reduced diameter.
Big game is the best line there is. Ridiculously good. Snaps much higher than its actual stated breaking strain aswell
I know what ya mean. The 525 is class. Best of it is you buy one second hand for 60/70 quid then ten year later sell it for 60/70. I’m a century man myself and use the kompressor SS. It’s crazy how anywhere in the country you can spot a decent sea angler and it’s normally the breakaway seatbox with back rest that gives it away. I was heavy into the match angling both sea and fresh water but mainly stick to the boat nowadays.
Thats what im using. Best rod ive ever owned. Used it everywhere. Had some huge fish in norway on it aswell. Tremendous

Big game is a great line. I wouldn’t believe the line diameter though, always seems heavy to me.

Aye definitely. It seems thicker than the spool suggests like but i wouldnt use anything else like. Its tremendous.

I fished wednesday along boaties along marsden and north row. Load of shite. Lobsters are there in plague proportions atm like. Every cast. Pain in the arse

Roll on a few weeks eh 🙄

So does it hurt the fish's lip when you brutally impale them for your amusement lads?
Not sure tbh i have asked a couple of times but never seem to get much response.

Personally speaking no matter how many times you stick one in your finger it never gets any easier

If you dont like fishing then why post.
Actually always wanted to give it a go. Previous post was tongue in cheek (pun absolutely intended).

I had a fish once and asked him his name, he shouted Bob through the glass and that was that.

My advice to beginners is always get comfy with rod reel and line first. Get consistent at cast with the three and you can’t go wrong after that. It’s a good foundation to build on. Aye it’s not a great time of year for shore anglers and it’s coming to an end for us (boats). I remember I won a big Comp off a mark near the black path mid/late September a few year back. Only codling in the whole Comp. 3 and a 1/2 pound.

Difficult to prove scientifically.
However what I can say from experience and has happened a few times, particularly when younger I have lost a fish, lost hook and line and caught it later less than an hour later with my hook intact which clearly was removed.

I guess demonstrating that it never put them off going for the same bait again.

What I can say is I always use rigs and line on my hooklength lighter than the main line. If I do lose a fish they haven’t got the float or weight trailing.

In the main Anglers are conservationists.
Those that leave litter in the banks should be banned for life, absolutely a big no.

I had started to use barbless cicle and semi circle hooks. Bit of a bugger to bait up, but always hooked fish right in the scissors of the jaw. Never had a deep hooked one.

Yip. Craig is a personal friend. Regarding the fishing, use the fishery pellets maybe soak them to soften them up. Fish the partridge and check in the shop the match results to see what pegs are fishing. Are you fishing the pole.

You not on the braid and fixed spool yet?
Saw him on Saturday in Sunderland, in his camouflaged range rover
