The Championship

Agreed, but football without ambition is nowt. I was almost relieved a week ago, but more I dwell on it I realise it’s a massive lost opportunity.
That's the rather paradoxical nature of it really. I hate the premier league and all it stands for, but what's the point if you can't dream, just being happy hanging around in the second tier for eternity? Just look at Brighton and what they've achieved.

I wish things would go back to the way they were before the Premier League, but there's no chance of that

I can understand some people wanting to be back in the Premier League asap, but for me the Championship is a brilliant, competitive division, full of big clubs, some great fixtures, difficult to predict and for those that go away regularly, some big allocations. And loads of midweek games to enjoy too (and by that I do not mean U21’s in the Papa Johns Trophy).

I’d like to see Derby (next year) and Sheffield Wednesday back up this season, Leeds and Leicester or preferably Everton to drop down and it will be even better and tougher next season.

League 1 to championship - huge gulf in terms of enjoyment and entertainment. It was awful.

Premier league to championship - less so. If anything, it’s more exciting. Personally no problem at all with another couple of seasons at least being a big draw in the 2nd tier.

End of post.

I've loved this season....

- A team playing entertaining football you can be proud of
- A manager who's basically like one of us
- Teams coming to play football and attack making for much better games for ST holders and regulars.
- Better away support coming with them
- Better away grounds for our travelling supporters

The premier league via the play-offs would have been a fairytale, but I'm happy to go again in The Championship next season.

Sooner all the oil state owned clubs fuck off into their own shit super league, the better football will be in this country
I admire your suggestion. The sooner football fans return to normal working people and their families the better.

The super-fans can then jump into their super-cars or private planes and be chauffered the 600 or so km into this week's super-stadium and their superbox (no football shirts or jeans) which can be super-sound-isolated so that their business conversations will not be interrupted by the frightful peasants. They can check the score (if it matters) after they get home.

Then we can can enjoy our football at last.

European super league please. Let the owners get their dick waving plaything. Those clubs just fuck off
Then a proper 1st 2nd and 3rd with 4th north and south
FA cup and League cup.

Good post, agree with all of that. There’s a lot to be said about being geared up for it once you get promoted. Whether that’s an immediate return (Fulham last season, Burnley this) or gradual improvement. I’d much rather do it the right way and be a ‘bit part’ club in the premier league than a Man City or Newcastle. Brighton and their achievements of late might well focus a few minds.
Its what happens if you don’t return immediately. Norwich maintained this philosophy for years but their failure to even compete this season could see them fall further as not many can see them getting promoted next season and the parachute money will eventually run out.

What, you don't think it's enthralling when Abu Dhabi based in manchester and Saudi Arabia based in Newcastle manage against all the odds to defeat a team from brentfiord?

55% year 1
45% year 2
25% year 3

A well run club that has a proper contingency in place for the likelihood of relegation should be able to manage this.

It’s a conundrum of modern English football. It’s a sport and obviously you strive to be at the very top. Unfortunately the very top in this country is an absolute cesspit with as many drawbacks as benefits. And our second tier is very strong with high quality, loads of drama and is missing a lot of the stuff that ruins the division above.
Agreed.

Some of the Referees in the Prem are fairly good, although the management of that league is shambolic for player discipline, financial management of clubs, ownership of clubs,
rules of the game and VAR usage. The distribution of revenue down the hierachy is laughable, or would be if it was not so cynical.

These issues also apply down through the EFL. In particular we have found that the Refs and linesmen are appalling. There is no need for that. We and other fans are entitled to enjoy a game without cheating, with reliable Refereeing and without deliberate time wasting. Then we can enjoy the games.

Aye it was great.

Hardly any football on TV.

Shit grounds, people pissing on the terraces.

Multiple arrests at every match.

Pitches with no grass.

Now look at it :
Plastic manufactured atmospheres flag waving

Corrupt politicians passing dodgy state takeovers

Owners who are literally the face of murderers parading on pitches as if butter wouldn’t melt

Same teams on TV all the time

Still arrests

Have ALL money centred around 6 clubs hopefully with them winning everything

Great isn’t it

Brighton are a great example of what can be achieved with the right people at the helm of the club and a clear vision and philosophy.

It’s just too early to tell but there are some similarities here right now. Steady improvement (after bottoming our in league 1), a coherent transfer strategy, succession planning and very pleasing to watch football.

But let’s not get carried away. This time last week there was talk of us sacking the coach!
