The Championship

I can understand some people wanting to be back in the Premier League asap, but for me the Championship is a brilliant, competitive division, full of big clubs, some great fixtures, difficult to predict and for those that go away regularly, some big allocations. And loads of midweek games to enjoy too (and by that I do not mean U21’s in the Papa Johns Trophy).

I’d like to see Derby (next year) and Sheffield Wednesday back up this season, Leeds and Leicester or preferably Everton to drop down and it will be even better and tougher next season.

League 1 to championship - huge gulf in terms of enjoyment and entertainment. It was awful.

Premier league to championship - less so. If anything, it’s more exciting. Personally no problem at all with another couple of seasons at least being a big draw in the 2nd tier.

End of post.

Only place to be is the premier league. It just is.

I think I’d genuinely prefer it to be a novelty. Few seasons up, a couple down, maybe a little bit of yo-yo-ing. The big problem with being up there a long time, unless you are awash with cash, is that one bad window can absolutely kill you. There’s almost no margin for mistakes in your recruitment (on and off the pitch). Get it wrong and it can set you back 5-10 years, as we’ve found out.

Right now, the championship is absolutely the right level for SAFC and the ongoing rebuild post the Short, Donald and Methvin regimes.

Agree, was saying this an Everton supporting bloke at work.

Agree 100%

I can understand the thought behind the post but surely we have to be aiming for the big league?
I want us to be the best we can be, that has to be to aspire to reach, consolidate and finish as high as possible year in year out in the PL

I love the championship but maybe that’s because of the way we have been playing recently. I’m sure Cardiff or Birmingham wouldn’t agree.
I think if you are badly run / have shit owners it doesn’t really matter what division you are playing in as it will be miserable.

For me an ideal championship would include clubs like:
Safc
West Ham
Derby
Forest
Both Sheffield clubs
Norwich and Ipswich
Wolves
Leeds
Leicester
Boro
QPR
Chelsea
Blackburn
Wigan
Portsmouth
Bolton
West Brom
Bristol City
Plymouth
Hull
Swansea

What a league that would be

Chelsea and West Ham? :D :D :D

Chelsea will never be relegated unless something catastrophic happens, this season was a one off.

West Ham are averaging 58,000 attendance and on the verge of winning a european trophy.

I see what you’re saying but it was more than one bad window.. we fucked it up for years before it almost killed us. That **** Moyes was just the cherry on the shit cake!

This it's fun for a season or two just like we were all looking forward to smashing league one on our way back up. After a few seasons and if we start to see the downside of this "model" the shine of being back in the championship will wear off if we aren't in the mix for promotion.

As long as we’re a club ‘on the up’ I enjoy the championship. Fighting for the top six (maybe even top 2!) makes it really enjoyable.

Playing the style of football we saw this last few months, what’s not to like?

If Chelsea fuck up as badly as last summer or worse they could easily struggle. Look at Leicester. People need to remind themselves they started the season with Tuchel and finished it with Lampard, that’s mental and anyone in football could have told you that.

We’re an example (plenty others) that if you keep throwing money at a problem, without a plan, eventually only guarantee is bust

If you're falling short of promotion, you're losing too many games, therefore life in the Championship will be miserable.

It’s all really about which direction you’re going in. Free-falling in the Premier League is a lot worse than sky rocketing up the Championship. I think everyone would prefer to be on the ride in the Premier League but that cannot happen every single season.

Look how far we are behind with just 7 years away from it. It’s frightening. It’s a different league from what we knew. We can’t afford to be away much longer.
