The Championship

I've said a few times on here I hate the PL. Yes, I want promotion, but getting promoted is the best part. After that it's just a slog until you're back down again and (hopefully) pushing for promotion.
Mind, nothing has felt worse than dropping to the third tier. That was beyond miserable.

All well and good saying that but do you want to watch a decade or more at this level. As it’s not been uncommon for teams to be stuck here for 20 years after relegation from the premier league.

As long as we're constantly improving I'm happy. This last season has easily been one of my favourites of the past 20 years, already can't wait for next season!

It’s a conundrum of modern English football. It’s a sport and obviously you strive to be at the very top. Unfortunately the very top in this country is an absolute cesspit with as many drawbacks as benefits. And our second tier is very strong with high quality, loads of drama and is missing a lot of the stuff that ruins the division above.

Sooner all the oil state owned clubs fuck off into their own shit super league, the better football will be in this country

Couldn't agree more. The Premier League can go and get f#cked too, they'll rot when the big clubs with their tea towel and ten gallon hat owners create their own little league to play in.

Good post, agree with all of that. There’s a lot to be said about being geared up for it once you get promoted. Whether that’s an immediate return (Fulham last season, Burnley this) or gradual improvement. I’d much rather do it the right way and be a ‘bit part’ club in the premier league than a Man City or Newcastle. Brighton and their achievements of late might well focus a few minds.
Yep… I think that’s absolutely right!

I can understand some people wanting to be back in the Premier League asap, but for me the Championship is a brilliant, competitive division, full of big clubs, some great fixtures, difficult to predict and for those that go away regularly, some big allocations. And loads of midweek games to enjoy too (and by that I do not mean U21’s in the Papa Johns Trophy).

I’d like to see Derby (next year) and Sheffield Wednesday back up this season, Leeds and Leicester or preferably Everton to drop down and it will be even better and tougher next season.

League 1 to championship - huge gulf in terms of enjoyment and entertainment. It was awful.

Premier league to championship - less so. If anything, it’s more exciting. Personally no problem at all with another couple of seasons at least being a big draw in the 2nd tier.

End of post.
Hear hear

I don't think you'd be saying the same if we'd been in the bottom half with a losing record mind. Also I think it's great with it being our first season, but if you've been in this league for 4/5 years playing the likes of Birmingham, Blackburn, Swansea etc. every year it'll quickly get boring.

Ultimately as a football fan, all I want to see is us win something and/ or have a European cup run I can go to - we're far more likely to do that in the PL than the Championship.

Agreed, but football without ambition is nowt. I was almost relieved a week ago, but more I dwell on it I realise it’s a massive lost opportunity.

There's a big part of me that wishes the Premier League had never even been formed TBH. Before that, relegation was all about pride and not money. Now you have clubs virtually bankrupting themselves just to stay there. Along with sacrificing the chance of cup glory, just for the delight of finishing fourth bottom.

The championship season is a quality league and the structure of the league is never the same winner two years in a row and a competitive league too with any team able to win it in a certain year.

Look how far we are behind with just 7 years away from it. It’s frightening. It’s a different league from what we knew. We can’t afford to be away much longer.
We can’t afford to be out of it, and maybe we can’t afford to be in it 🤷🏼‍♂️
