The Championship

Only been following the Lads since O'Niel and the PL wasn’t all that much fun. Lucky to win 10 games per season. The Championship being more competitive next season is what I want to see. The dog fight at the end of the season to make the playoffs was a far cry better that the dog fight to avoid the drop in the PL

Didn't care for the existing and hoping to survive life of being in the PL. I'm ok with with this/last season but multiple times people lost their shit over it and as long were baring in mind that staying in the championship still means there'll be defeats, horrible games and the occasional stuffing, nerves and anxiety and all the usual, at a lower level than the PL
If there were to separate leagues at this point with no promotion or relegation to or from I'd be pretty placated, as perverse as that is, that's what we've come to with football.

Now look at it :

Have ALL money centred around 6 clubs hopefully with them winning everything
Sunderland were the Bank of England club in the 1950's and the directors got done for corruption.

Money has always been at the heart of professional football, even before it was a professional game!

That happens and we’ve had seasons similar. They don't last long and then you’re suddenly the whipping boys again
Yep at least one of those if not both down within 3 seasons probably.

Not money from murderers I don’t think ?

Brighton are a great example of what can be achieved with the right people at the helm of the club and a clear vision and philosophy.

It’s just too early to tell but there are some similarities here right now. Steady improvement (after bottoming our in league 1), a coherent transfer strategy, succession planning and very pleasing to watch football.

But let’s not get carried away. This time last week there was talk of us sacking the coach!
This is a well balanced argument indeed! One of the best posters on the board from what I have seen.

Your club is now in the hands of a state who murders anyone who disagrees with its barbaric oppression. It supported and propagated an attack on America which killed thousands. It kills innocent children in Yemen. It executes prisoners it stones gays and women.
And you come on here and try to align your money to Sunderland in the 1950’s
That’s Saudi whataboutery and it’s finest.
Dear f***ing me

I think if you are badly run / have shit owners it doesn’t really matter what division you are playing in as it will be miserable.

For me an ideal championship would include clubs like:
Safc
West Ham
Derby
Forest
Both Sheffield clubs
Norwich and Ipswich
Wolves
Leeds
Leicester
Boro
QPR
Chelsea
Blackburn
Wigan
Portsmouth
Bolton
West Brom
Bristol City
Plymouth
Hull
Swansea

What a league that would be
Relegation for safc unless Wigan , Portsmouth , Plymouth messed up

I love the championship but maybe that’s because of the way we have been playing recently. I’m sure Cardiff or Birmingham wouldn’t agree.
At the same time though, if we did get promoted, then realistically we would probably be a premier league equivalent of Birmingham or Cardiff, floating around the bottom of the table considering it a successful season if we avoid relegation before the last day of the season.

I’m torn, because I’m loving the football at present, and I’m lovinv playing against bigger teams, and teams who have a go at us rather than park the bus and make us their cup final; but then on the other hand, this won’t always be enough for me. I think I love it atm because of the progression, if we stagnate then the enthusiasm will dwindle.

For me, I didn’t want to go up this season. I think this season we have over achieved. I think a playoff spot again next year would make me happy and despite it not looking so, I would consider it progress still. But the season after that I would hope for automatics and then hopefully we can carry on progressing.

That being said, without oil state money I can’t think of any team that have cracked the top 6 and stayed there. Look at Leicester, wolves, West Ham. They were all looking like they had and then this year has been a relegation battle.

…In short I’m torn.

I will never understand how anyone from the LGBTQ+ community can support that club

They do though as does an MP who prior to the takeover was a chief protestor to Saudi backed atrocities in Yemen ? Shows that city’s people up as unique when it comes to desperation for football trophies. It is staggering

Biggest draw for me is the lack of VAR and the amount of Saturday 3pm kick offs.

Lose them two, and as a match going fan home and away, it instantly becomes significantly less enjoyable.

It's also great to get to some class away days in proper football grounds with proper supporters in them.

Going to a anfield, old Trafford, the Etihad, Emirates , spurs etc... Would get boring as fuck by the second season.

I can't wait to go back to Preston, Bristol city, Plymouth, Ipswich, Watford, millwall, Norwich, , Birmingham, west Brom, QPR etc .. even Swansea and Cardiff.. they actually feel like proper away days at proper clubs.
