Ten German Bombers

Sang mainly by goggle hooded gonks who wouldn't say boo to a cat without their naughty mates around them.

I've just got back now. I did indeed have a goggle jacket on and loved singing ten German bombers and fuck the IRA. Can't wait to sing it all again in June for France away.

Was watching it with some Germans last night in Berlin (pathetic I nar), and they never even mentioned it despite it being clearly audible.

They couldn't give a fuck.

Because it's English people that are outraged about it as per usual, far more important things to get hung up over. The Germans couldn't give a fuck.

OK mate, do you really wear a goggle jacket and sing nationalistic songs to unassuming Europeans ? If so, is it because you've had a few too many drinks and get caught up in the Brit abroad syndrome, or do you have genuine issues with countries where we have a history of military conflict ? Curious

People don't seem to have a problem with the Scottish national anthem, remind me what that's about again

Umm, our own National Anthem was written in response to the battle of Culloden. In deference to our Northern neighbours, the verse about wishing the monarch long life "rebellious Scots to crush" is now usually omitted :)

You must be a barrel of laughs at away matches

Careful, plenty on here hoping the Russians get hold of the folk singing that chant last night.

They get upset at a chant because it may or may not offend someone then on the other hand they want the Russian hooligans to get hold of an England fan next year and "teach them lesson"

It's outdated and a bit sad now in my opinion. Which is a bit hypocritical of me because I joined in with that chant back in 2006 for the world cup, but I find it tedious these days.

I think the point is that it's designed to offend. Ner ner we beat you. As if to suggest that simply by fluke of birth modern Germans would consider themselves anything like Nazis and want to associate with their "side". They would stand for the same things and values that our ancestors did, not theirs. They may as well sing a song about how their Angle ancestors colonised our island. It would be no less relevant.

Main reason it's so cringey though is just how insecure it all is. Sung by people riding on the cost tails of a war they didn't even fight and claiming it as their own victory when they had fuck all to do with any of it. Most of the folk I've ever met involved in the war didn't want to relive it all the time. Just go get on with their lives. That's why they fought it in the first place .

A bit like Scotland's national anthem then?...
