Takeover Rumours

It's a game changer all right mate and, you're right again, it'll be a massive relief for everyone when it's all announced.

I just hope we can all embrace this opportunity without some people pulling it to pieces as they did when Short sold the club to Donald. The way he was accused of being a penniless conman was in poor taste imo. He's been as honest as possible despite some difficult circumstances. If he's managed to pull this sale/investment off it could be the best thing that's happened in the last half century.

If/when this deal goes through, everyone needs to pull in the same direction. All those that have stayed away since our relegation, need to return.

This is a huge opportunity and we need to get behind the club. Let’s start by pushing our average attendance to over 35,000 and getting the Prem Concourse back open

I can understand the Man City and PSG "projects" (basically propaganda vehicles for two oil-rich Middle Eastern countries with shocking human rights records).

I still can't wrap my head around people like Michael Dell and associates wanting to plough serious money into SAFC. I suppose the question I should have asked was not "why Sunderland?" but "why would the likes of Dell want to get involved in owning an English football club"? I doubt they give a fuck about potentially making a £200m profit or whatever by selling the club on at some point. I'd love to know why they're getting involved.
I’m sure once it’s all done we will hear a lot more from them either through Stewart or directly even

That's my hope too. Donald has tried to be as open as he could be about the club and he's had to have a few conversations he probably didn't envisage having with people due to the way he has chosen to speak to the fans (Twitter). I don't think he's daft enough to think the idiots having a go on there are representative of our fans in general and there will be a proportion of them who are not Sunderland fans at all trying to cause as much upset as possible.

I think he's done a great job in the short time he's been here and no one saw this coming. Those that try and pull this deal apart can be quite rightly labelled as mags and given plenty of shit.

Fair points. Linking the local area and investing into community would be a huge win.

More guesswork from me but I see this as a catalyst to motivate local people/business, the council, MP's, etc to invest time, money and effort.

I don't believe the Dell people will be arriving with cases full of money to throw at the area.

And it would be crass to engage in any John Hall style Geordie Nation stupidity imo. We all have an interest in our club and we'll all feel better about it if we pull together rather than just watch money being thrown at us.

Like I said earlier this is 95% guesswork 4% gossip and 1% actual info. But I feel so confident I've stuck my neck out and said this will definitely happen, the investment is serious and the plan long term.

If this all goes wrong I'll probably leave the board in shame tbh.

I just think if we follow similar to what Red Bull clubs have done, investing in the academy and good young first team players then sell for big profits and using it to reinvest back into the team and so on becoming self sufficient wouldn’t be a bad plan to follow
Must it be one way or the other? How about throw a bit of money at all aspects of the infrastructure. Sustainability plus acquisition of talent where we need it now.

As I said earlier mate, I'm posting to the many people who know me.

Some have visited one or other of the mansions I've looked after, in the UK and south of France, or seen enough to know who I know etc.

I'm aware that some of this stuff sounds preposterous but if I posted lies there'd be people on here who'd pull me to bits.

I’ve always thought of you as a decent, heart on his sleeve sort of poster. It doesn’t sound preposterous at all.

Anyhoo, can you set me and my poor crippled Missus up for a mansion visit, please?

If they do invest in Sheepfolds though, more in a club way than anything such as a sporting village, another hotel for concerts etc. then that brings money in to the club as well as more footfall in the city and likewise you would hope that would encourage the council to do more work in the town centre. Did I recently read about a potential pedestrian bridge from the VAUX site to Sheepfolds area or am I imagining that?

MSD Partners are not the buying vehicle. The principals are doing this as individuals (whether via a new LLP or whatever remains to be seen) precisely because they want this to be a long term project without the need to provide regular returns for investing clients. Part of this will involve increasing the club's involvement with the community. They understand that the relationship between club and city is essentially symbiotic.

Proof required for this post please GOM or delete... thanks.

It's all very exciting and I hope that the benefits of having these owners extend beyond the club, as have been described.

I wonder if they can also help develop the potential of the 'Software City' project. Seems like it hasn't gone terribly well so far.

I would hazard a guess that the Callaghan brothers would welcome any opportunity to sit down with the MSD crew and discuss ideas and opportunities.

Any young ambitious talent will look at Sunderland in a different way if this all comes off.

"Dad, I have two contract offers, one from groundless aimless Coventry and the other from Dell backed Sunderland. Coventry are offering more money, what do you think? "

Oh my. Talk about making the right noises.

Think you'll be around a little while longer

That bridge has been getting mentions ever since the SOL opened to be fair. No idea if it’s ever been an actual plan but it would be welcomed by a lot of people.

That implies you don't support the team. To my way of thinking, that's the only fragment of sense contained within your two sentences, on a benign construction. It's equally fair to construe the entire paragraph in a less flattering light. But that's fine. On you go, weaving your warped weft, in furtherance of whatever it is you're aiming to achieve....

Well articulated, Bovril, la.
Warped weft. Classic wobbler

The walk from the town, over the bridge and through Sheepfolds, may be quaintly nostalgic for us but its really messy after a night match in the rain. A footbridge to the ground would really boost the pubs and other businesses around the theatre area imo.

Also, I have to say, the area down the back of the Deafy, burger van alley and the railway bridge is frankly disgusting.

The council need tazering into action tbh.
