Takeover News/Rumours - Part 42

We havent got any option but to give him a chance, I just think theres nothing on his CV that suggests he's the right appointment whatsoever. I've no idea whether he'll do well here or not but I certainly dont understand why anyone would be encouraged by the appointment. We do this with every appointment, nobody wanted him before and he was widely accepted as the worst option on the list of realistic names but now we have to be positive and try and find positives where there are none. I'm not just being negative for the sake of it here. Was very happy with the restructure above and the appointment of Speakman.
He plays attacking football and was aiming for a job above where we are after Bristol. The fact Speakman has had a big say in the appointment and they've both clearly been convinced by the backing they'll receive is why I'm encouraged.

Time will tell, but I'm willing to give him a chance in the right structure to see how he goes. Hopefully the start of something solidly built for the long term. Hopefully Johnson does well within that. If not at least we'll be attacking teams in the process.
I take your points but the fundamental issue that needs addressing is uniting the fans and these appointments have failed hugely.
Results, if they come, will unite the fans. Whoever is in charge shouldn't just appoint a name to lift the fans.

The club needs the right structure, the right plan, the right people to execute that plan. Time will tell whether they've got this right.

He might have been aiming for one above where we are but he didnt get one, he was sacked from Bristol City and theres been 9 managers replaced in the championship since then and none of those went for him.

Edit: I'll leave it. I'm pissed off but doesnt mean I have to piss on everyone elses chips. Hopefully he makes me eat my words and you can all laugh at me in 18 months time.

And we're in League One.

Time will tell, but appointing a Head Coach to fit the system is part of the new restructure. Speakman said himself he had a big hand in that process which should give some reassurance.

Lets see if it works.

Could have appointed klopp or guardiola there's no way the fans and club are uniting until methvan and donald have gone completely and a few licky arses on here who been bought a few pints by them sticking up for them at every turn are doing the cause no favours at all

It’s a sequencing problem for me. If it had been takeover announcement then SpD then coach we’d have felt more comfortable. There’s a touch of lacking realism about what safc fans think was achievable IMO so, in the absence of definitive change at ownership level, it all gets pinned on the dopey Donald regime.

It’s a weird situation we’re in tbh. There’s a disconnect between fan mood and results with no fans in the ground. That can cut both ways. More space for a new group to get established and less need to make statements in their appointments. Also nowhere to hide in performances though. They’re gonna have to rely on actual substance. Let’s hope they’ve nailed it.

There are reasons to be cautiously optimistic certainly, without diving in with both feet at this stage. Just a shame they pissed away the summer really.

Edit: poor choice of manager being the elephant in the room.

Truth is that nothing we’re doing right now wasn’t achievable when The Dope arrived. We just would have had the added bonus of some PL holdovers and some truly talented kids to build around. A disgrace that they’ve wasted the past 2.5 years and done so much damage in the process.

This. This is how we should have built from the start. League one was always the chance for a reset button. It seems we're finally hitting it.

Yep, imagine Speakman being appointed with an academy containing Greenwood, Hugill, Pye, Stephenson, spencer, mumba, maja and probably a few others I've missed

I’m sure he’ll have a say but not control.

I think we're going to have to get used to a collegiate style.

So, at the top, you get KS, with the following reports:

Head coach
Head of recruitment
Head of academy
Department of Sports Science offering cross-functional support to the coach and academy head
Department of Data Analysis offering cross-functional support to all areas to provide data on current player performance, assessment of opponents, and data on potential acquisitions at all levels.

All working together to a strategy developed by KS.

Sounds ideal!!
