wasn't it fantastic when you could take 10,000 to an away game....sigh
That's why the games fucked marra, no need for tickets if you fancied it you went and took yer chance.

Can you elaborate on them being "done" at the SOL? Does this thing really go on? I've been to every Man Utd game at the SOL and wouldn't constitute a few daft charvers shouting "who are ya" at them from behind the safety of a line of horses, as them being "done".
Admittedly my route home doesn't take me directly outside of the away end (i go down the east stand, to stokoes statue and along sheepfolds) so maybe if i was to get a little bit closer i would see them getting "done".
Or does this violence go on elsewhere?
i remember chelsea away probally 300 there was just before xmas and was a tricky day trying to avoid a hiding also a few other games when numbers were down and you had to be alert to avoid a hiding....not all books and films stuff...i agree, it is one of the reasons, they were fantastic days, someone mentioned in this thread that we took massive followings everywhere, and of course a lot of times we did, but i also remember when we had few at certain games. late 70's in particular..
It was always very comforting to think you would be among a massive following, made you feel very proud..
still happens.
i think the biggest with man utd at the SOL was in 2000, hundreds, maybe a thousand confronted man utd coming over the bridge iirc. absoloute hell on and a season or 2 later they got a kicking near the vaux site, i think one of them was quite badly hurt. theres trouble pretty much everytime we play man utd at the SOL but those 2 were the biggest scale.
last season for example there was little bits of bother in the town and near the ground then apparently man utd got absoloutley battered in a pub after the game, i think it was the hastings but not sure.
Ok, so the one in 2000. What time would this "thousand" have confronted Man Utd coming over the bridge? I run like clockwork on matchday and i cross the bridge fifteen minutes before kick-off. Even if i was too late to see this, if it was on the scale you say, im sure i would have seen the aftermath. Bitten off noses and ears on the floor, blood all over etc. I never go past the vaux site prior to kick-off so i can't comment on that.
Chapters in Boro/Everton/Forest/Chelsea just off the top of my head.
In the 70s it was a case of massive numbers from sland going all over the country, rather than anything organised.
In the 80s when organised "firms" were first introduced it was mainly the London clubs/Pompey etc that were first into it. After that the scousers and mancs were into it especially abroad when the scousers were going on the rob bringing all the gear back which then became the casual era.
During the 90s onwards sunderland were up there amongst the best up and down the country. Huddesfield, Birmingham, Stoke, Rangers and numerous others all came out 2nd best. This was when Sunderland had big numbers following england also, i.e Italy away, Ireland away etc.

cant remmeber what time it was. it was in the papers iirc, they were going mad because the there was similar incidents vs boro and the mags around the same time

Tranmere and Swindon away in the 90s were class we managed to get tickets for every part of the grounds but would have been even better if it was pay at the gate.
Manchester united at home boxing day sure a fair few manchester united took a slap at the hands of the youngings, can remeber seing some youngins being nicked at the time by the police.
some forest were chased to the beach in 1994 iirc after getting a few slaps.
As has been said stoke hudds etc.
Wolves took a beating at doncaster station two seasons ago.
Mags took a pasting at herrington park leading into them calling the police
in the seventies it was just a bit of drunken fun really that ended up same up and down the country.
Tranmere away was mental, think it was pay on the gate though!?...
We packed the kop end which was a fair size, there were people sat near the pitch, stood on the stairs etc and we seemed to have fans in the home ends aswell.
Remember one of our lot running from the home end after we scored and diving into us.
I don't think the coppers could believe how many we brought down and were getting slighty concerned when more and more kept pilling in.
couple of years ago?
man utd came out chanting and ended up sprinting for their coaches and needing the police to crack some heads to save them
not trouble but the funniest ive seen was liverpool at home a couple of years ago. small group fo their lads heading for the town after the game and followed by sunderland. they legged it into mcdonalds, literally sat down with families to try and hide and rang the police to escort them out![]()
Fuck off you snidey ****, pretentious middle class pseud.
Isn't it safc v derby at pride park on the front of one of the books?
