He doesn’t like

he averages 33. And averages 35 in 2019. And that includes a dreadful start to the year

averaged 39 v Oz and 61 in NZ

and even then his numbers aren't all that. Compton, Robson and Lyth were all dropped for having the same sort of figures that Burns does. It just illustrates the downgrade in expectations since Cook has retired. Cook was our mainstay and the others that were tried all averaged around 30 and were dropped. Burns has looked ok, but is now our mainstay averaging about 28

Hopefully he comes good

I stand corrected. Including today's knock he averages 31.9

As I stated in previous post, it's the sort of numbers that led to being dropped when Cook was our mainstay

Yep take your point, but no way we could consider not having him there as the cupboard is as bare as I can ever remember for openers in this country.
 
It’s not about figures or averages for me, it’s about what other options we have, you pick teams in any sport with the players you have at your disposal.
