South Africa v Australia

Can't see Australia getting anything from this series

Still think we'll see some good, competitive cricket, but ultimately I think we'll see South Africa show a gulf in class similar to that of England and India in the summer.

Poor old Aussies :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Steyn vs Clarke earlier on was a superb battle to watch. Clarke looked in all sorts of trouble but now has 51 from 58. Top batting.

On another note the best spinner in the world is making his debut today at the youthful age of 32, just ousting the world class performer that is Paul Harris.

6 years in the test side. Its a joy to watch a top class leggie in international cricket. The test arena has been a poorer place without having any of note.

Steyn has produced some superb stuff today.

Kallis on the other hand.....

I dont wish to pour scorn on England but I do genuinely believe the Saffers and Pakistan have better attacks
Now with their two best bowlers in prison they don't.

Agreed with South Africa though. No one comes close to a partnership of Steyn/Morkel in world cricket.

Its not just them, its having a leg spinner and a fifth bowler with over 250 test wickets up their sleeve. I just feel they are more suited to adapt to a variety of conditions better than we are. England are very good in certain conditions which is appluadable

Good argument - certainly a fair enough opinion to have. Steyn is undeniably ther best fast bowler in the world and Morkel is high class. I do think theres question marks over the rest of the attack though - at the moment they go into a test series with 2 completely unproven bowlers and in kallis one that is past his best.

Finn is unproven least we not forget.

Bresnan isnt test class regardless of his efforts on puddings against weak nations

Broad the majority of the board wanted dropped not so long ago

Tremelett has outperformed but always looks like a long term injury waiting to happen with his frame

To be honest I think Steyn and Morkel alone make that attack so much better than England's. Having Kallis is extremely handy but he's the wrong side of 35 and not looking the threat he has been over the last 15 years or so.

They have a leg spinner, but only time will tell whether or not he's international class and they still don't have a permanent third seamer who is proven at this level. None of Tsotsobe, Parnell or Philander have nailed down a spot and this is where England have the advantage, in our strength in depth.

bollocks man what is so good about Morkel someone please tell me! he isn't even better than Tremlett and is far more expensive. Steyn is the best of the lot there is no doubt about it but the rest of the SA aren't currently upto that much.

I've got no arguments about the Steyn/Morkel partnership being the world's best, but I'm not convinced about their other 3 bowlers in comparison with our attack. Tahir didn't look at all convincing, though it is his debut and a day 1 pitch, so it'll be interesting to see how he does later in the game, Philander had a good day and Kallis looked like his age is catching up with him.

We may not have a Steyn type bowler, but the fact we have a pool of 5 fast bowlers to choose from and the best spinner in the world means we've got a very consistent attack. If Steyn/Morkel has an off day, they're relying on one of their other 3 stepping up, if Jimmy has an off day, I'd be far more confident in one of Broad, Tremlett, Bresnan or Finn stepping up.

I can't wait for next summer's series and whether or not they're bowler friendly tracks, it'll be a cracking battle of the overall bowling attacks.

disagree about pakistan. saffers will be close although as tendulkar said, once you get past saffers two openers you get an easier ride, which is not not the case with england, especially with them having the best spinner in the world.

steyn is without doubt best pace bowler out there, although he did have a lot of helpfrom the wicket today.

South Africa looked good today, despite helpful conditions, it will be interesting to see if they can dish out some of the drubbings England gave the Aussies, albeit in a 2 Test series, which is a bit shit.

Agree, why is it only 2? No doubt there'll be 10 million ODIs and T20s to fit in.:evil:
