SMB Tennis thread

Sinner in four would be my prediction. Let's be real though with these two it's just a complete stab in the dark.

Even with the H2H being pretty strongly in his favour I can't really remember seeing Alcaraz bully Sinner around this easily before in a Slam match. Nailing the backhand down the line at will to change direction making Sinner scramble and cranking that forehand at about 90 mile per hour to get the point over and done.

That hold there for 2-1's from 0-15 feels like the first time Sinner's won a few points in a row through him being aggressive. Might finally be the start of Sinner's match.

Quite enjoyable watching these two play. Not gonna compare them to peak Federer Nadal in the late 00s but way much interesting than anything in the Djokovic era

27 wins in a row on hard court in Slams for Sinner until today but that was about as comprehensive as it gets. Sinner the better player for maybe ten minutes in the second set and that was it. Alcaraz dictated that near enough from start to finish.

Do think that match kinda shows the level of difference from these two to the rest. The player that seems to be getting hyped up as the one to potentially beat these two at the minute is Ben Shelton and reality is Alcaraz just served a lot better/smarter than Shelton ever has done in a match against an elite player. Considering the serve is by some distance Shelton's biggest weapon that's less than ideal. Served like Djokovic in the Goran years.

41/24 winners to unforced errors against Sinner on a hard court is crazy numbers by the way  Be surprised if there's many (if any) +17 winners to unforced errors stat sheets against Sinner on a hard court through the rest of his career.

Anyone else watching? Every year I say I'm not arsed and then every year watch pretty much all of it because it ends up being the most fun tournament of the season.

Other than the GOAT Sir Andy Murray I think Agassi might be my favourite tennis personality of all time. Between The Lines is a good doc but never understood why one of the major players like Netflix or HBO have never made a proper in depth Agassi doc. You only need to do an average job of it because of his charisma and his story and you've got a Slam Dunk! Tennis is a far better sport when he's involved.

I didn't realise it was on, no publicity but I definitely would have watched it.

This Davis Cup final between Italy and Spain in Bologna is restoring the feeling  can't beat a proper partisan biased Davis Cup atmosphere. Berrettini beat PCB in straight sets earlier, Munar rolled through the first set against Coboli but they've just played a looooong second set and Coboli's took it in a breaker. Third set coming up now, Italy win and they retain the trophy, Spain win and we go to a deciding dubs later on.

Don't care what they have to do to bring it back even if it means it's only held once every 2/3 year but they need to bring back home and away ties. Best tournament in tennis until they changed from the old format.
