Skinheads

real early skinheads wore Fred Perry , ben Sherman Brutus shirts, stapress and brogues or loafers just like Mods, then went into Boots and jeans later in the 70's
They were suades...about four years after the first skinheads...in 1969-70 it was stay pressed pants Doc Martons and braces. Yer Ben Sherman shirts...

Bit of revisionist history going on here like.

The 'original' skinheads may not have had that much in common with the bleach jeans Oi music and NF version that came around in the late seventies-early eighties but they were hardly a bunch of mild-mannered politically correct laid back socially aware pillars of the community in their impeccable threads and dancing to reggae music either.

Nobody ever said they were.

Never lived in the age of skinheads, I only really heard of the variety who were racist thugs in the 1980s and I learnt most of that by watching this is England.

Watched a doc on BBC iPlayer last night Man Alive: Hells Angels and Skinheads from 1969, presented by MLF Harold Willuamson. The Angels were the UK Spinal Tap version, just scruffy Midlands rockers, dumb as posts, the skinheads mostly a lot younger like a bunch of daft kids. Showed a small group of Chelsea skinheads (just young'uns really) chanting away unmolested in the middle of the Leazes though.

Man Alive - What's the Truth About Hells Angels and Skinheads?
