Sam Fender

Noel hates his brother more than he hates the mags

He’s another London based millionaire plastic fan.

He lost all credibility 20 years ago. He’s Sam Fender with a sky blue shirt and a limited vocabulary.

He’ll be playing at Sunday for Sammy in a few years. The whole Nuremberg Rally style flag waving spectacle is deeply weird and makes me nauseous.
I genuinely don’t think SAFC fans would do anything approaching this if a home grown lad made it ‘big’ and played at the SOL.

His music is okay, modern music rarely uses guitars and drums these days so it makes a change.

Why he has to pander to the mags football support and become a professional Geordie is behind me, he didn’t need to do that.
He didn’t need to do it. I agree. He is doing it, I assume, because one of his PR team said something like “wear a Newcastle top and pretend to be a life long, die-hard, match-going Mag. It will annoy some but will increase the Revenue and publicity”.
They are right.
He is doing something right. Selling big venues now and has War on Drug supporting him. Should be the reverse but that’s my opinion.

It’s clever by him or whoever manages him to use the football side for more publicity, other big music stars in the past had the talent to have a worldwide audience so didn’t need to do that
Irony is, he doesn't even like football and certainly isn't a Saudi fan. Went to my son's school, had zero interest in football but is now just turning it on for the gravy masses who lap it all up.

I'm sure there was none of this music football crossover shite until the Gallaghers rocked up with nothing more interesting to say. Who did Bowie support again? Your musicians lads, the good ones transcend nationalities or even genders never mind football allegiances. Surely you've got more interesting stuff to share with the world?
There has always (as long as I can remember anyway) been a crossover. People have always been aware of who artists as bands support. That’s fine. What is different here is the crowd. The crowd (Mags) have decided that his gigs should be about football. This does not and has not ever happened on this scale before. No other artist in the history of music has performed to so many people wearing football tops and waving flags. They have decided he is for them and them only. They are mental. Quite how any Sunderland fan can go to SJP to watch him is beyond me. I’d rather I’d rather get a prostate tickle from Freddie Krueger.

He's probably gained a lot of money from the Newcastle football side of it but he's probably ostracised 95% of people from Sunderland. There will still be SAFC fans that go but I wouldn't want to be anywhere near his gigs in the North East.

Each to their own. I wouldn’t miss seeing a musician I like because of this. Just get a pint, ignore the charade, enjoy the bits when he is chanting.

It’s impossible to ignore it mind. His gigs are absolutely atrocious.
It’s clever from him as without it he’s not having anywhere near the level of success he’s had. It’s absolutely wank though and says a lot of him as a bloke that he was willing to sell his soul.

There’s a lass at graft who went to his gig at St James’ a few year back, she admitted she wasn’t into his music but wanted to go because ‘it’ll be a mint day in the toon’

She was even asking if she could borrow a mag top to wear for it. Pretty much a lot of his fanbase is like this.
I know a lass from Sheffield who did exactly the same.
Taylor Swift wears a Burnley friendship bracelet.
And pronounces Burnley in a broad North Lancastrian accent.

he's definitely not supporting the government's war on drugs ;)

Gazza Syndrome - he's got the talent to be a global star but can't get out of his home town in his head. Being told he's the new Springsteen and having a saxophone player over his (now) dreary dirges seems enough. What a waste.
